I actually did think about the poll for about .03 seconds. Also thought about the 2nd part, but I think I care about messing up the poll more.Ted wrote:But, but, but .. . but my poll?!?! My poll demands resolution, dammit!!!
In all seriousness if you guys want to end early I don't care. And before someone talks about it not being fair that some team will lose fewer players if we stop early (because losing sucky mcdickface or uselessballs mcgee at the 96th overall pick makes a big difference). SHUT UP. WHO CARES.

Re: 2029 Brewster Expansion Draft
FYI. To all those concerned, I have provided a proxy to Brandon (I did advise him) and he will put in my next 2 picks. So, Adam & Sean: Don't take my guys...anyway, I'm saying it's OK if Brandon puts in my next 2 picks as I outlined in my lengthy PM...
Re: 2029 Brewster Expansion Draft
I'm perfectly fine with only 12 rounds.

Re: 2029 Brewster Expansion Draft
If the draft gets shortened... I'll let each team who have not yet selected a Brooklyn player, pick one and I will trade them to you for $1. Obviously there is no one great available. But at least you can pick up a halfway decent age appropriate AA filler. Which is kinda the spirit of this 24 round draft.

I got all excited and went and looked; Brooklyn showed zero players taken. Booyah....oops...what's that? I took $12M off your payroll...doh!ae37jr wrote:If the draft gets shortened... Re: 2029 Brewster Expansion Draft
Now that it looks like the draft is wrapping up, I will say that I was shocked to see so many high priced vets get picked. I mean, if a team was willing to give them away for nothing, I think in many cases they would be willing to trade them after the draft(along with prospects) for nothing. AKA a Mike McPherson style trade. I probably would have held on to Morales. His .968 OPS 2 years ago is hard to lose even if I know it was a fluke. But someone like Vincent Morin of Las Vegas? I guarantee Recte would have traded a decent prospect or 2 just to get that $8 million off the books. I'm not knocking anyone's strategy, just shooting the breeze in the downtime.Bumstead wrote:I took $12M off your payroll

I'm perfectly fine with stopping here; I am equally fine with Matt drafting it out the rest of the way if that's faster.
And I'll take Brooklyn's offer of a $1 player either way

Re: 2029 Brewster Expansion Draft
Fair point. But I also look at it as signing some very popular veteran free agents without having to be locked into a long term FA contract. This way, my team gets a quick boost in fan interest and attendance (My owner's priority is profit, after all). And these contracts will start to fall of the books starting next offseason.ae37jr wrote:Now that it looks like the draft is wrapping up, I will say that I was shocked to see so many high priced vets get picked. Also a possibility, however remote: If one or two of these guys have a great season, The popular veteran with an expiring contract could become a tradeable commodity if a team needs one more piece and has some cash to burn in July. Should be exciting either way.

Re: 2029 Brewster Expansion Draft
Well, I figure we also are having a Rule V draft. Pretty sure I saw that was confirmed when someone asked. Also, we have the amateur draft that will add 20 minor league players. I'm fine will filling my roster out with FA's and potential trades.jiminyhopkins wrote:I'm perfectly fine with stopping here; I am equally fine with Matt drafting it out the rest of the way if that's faster.

Re: 2029 Brewster Expansion Draft
I took Morales for a couple of reasons. He's popular and his contract is only for 2 years. He can play 1B and hit in the middle of my order, while drawing his adoring fans, for the next 2 years.ae37jr wrote:Now that it looks like the draft is wrapping up, I will say that I was shocked to see so many high priced vets get picked. This was my thinking too - definitely surprised to see guys get plucked that I figured would be available post-draft.ae37jr wrote:Now that it looks like the draft is wrapping up, I will say that I was shocked to see so many high priced vets get picked. Just made the last pick of Round 12. I will holding off on making any further picks. It seems we are all on board with it being over now. Just want to make sure Matt see's all this and okay's it.

Re: 2029 Brewster Expansion Draft
Nobody mentioned they would be available. I just picked the guys I wanted. Isn't that the point? If it helps another team shed salary, so be it. I know I've been taking heat from some for relieving teams of big contracts. In my view, it was a strategic decision by those teams to leave them unprotected, and good for them that it worked out. Not a big deal.Chey wrote:This was my thinking too - definitely surprised to see guys get plucked that I figured would be available post-draft.ae37jr wrote:Now that it looks like the draft is wrapping up, I will say that I was shocked to see so many high priced vets get picked. Sure, and there's no rule against doing it. It doesn't hurt you really -- the teams you're helping likely aren't going to be your big competition. I just wasn't expecting anyone to do it.jiminyhopkins wrote: Nobody mentioned they would be available. I just picked the guys I wanted. Isn't that the point? Re: 2029 Brewster Expansion Draft
I wouldn't worry about it. Just discussion. I'm spending a ton of money on a guy who can only DH. But he can hit and I needed to get a solid veteran hitter to help give some of my young EBA guys protection. All about strategy.Chey wrote:Sure, and there's no rule against doing it. And anyone who didn't lose a player but wanted to AND is willing to send some prospects with a salary dump, let me know. As of now, I'm willing to do that to bolster my farm some.

Re: 2029 Brewster Expansion Draft
I was just giving opinions and trying to add to the discussions because I'm bored. I don't mind that some teams shed salary. Everyone followed the rules and can run their teams the way they want. As we've already seen with the Madison trade, there may be a lot more stuff going on then meets the eye. Heck, I may even be asking some of you about the high priced vets you drafted.
