TGC Tours?
Does anyone on here play on the TGC tours (The Golf Club video game)? If so, I wouldn't mind keeping up with each of you on here as kind of a diary of our progress. I am currently in CC-D, trying to gain an exemption to CC-C for next week right before the playoffs.
This week I shot:
Round 1 - 66
Round 2 - 58
-20 and in 4th heading to round 3. So far, so good, but I have had a hard time scoring in Round 4 in all my Round 4 practice rounds.
Good luck if any of you play. If not, this could be a very short diary of "our" progress...

Re: TGC Tours?
Never heard of it but may have to check it out. May need to look into what this actually is.
I'm a pretty avid golfer in real life. Currently resting at a disappointing 5.5 handicap.

Re: TGC Tours?
Check this site out: TGC Tours.
I am currently playing in the Challenge Circuit level D, but I'm making a push toward the Web.com tour.
I have an XBox1. I basically downloaded the game for $25 or something like that. You have to get the deluxe version. It also works on PS4 and PC. I play on this online tour and everyone has the same clubs with same attributes. So, the only way to beat another person is to play better. You can loft or de-loft shots and hit fades and draws. Plus you use the controller to hit, so that can also cause mis-hits and such. It's a fun game and a lot better than the current EA Sports version (Rory McIlroy Golf or whatever it is now).
To get started they send you through Q school and then assign you to where ever you qualify. If you are into golf games, this is the best one I've ever played.
As to your disappointing handicap...I'm happy to break 100...but, I just don't play actual golf much. I keep thinking I will free up my weekends and do so, but I just don't have a group that wants to do that. Let me know if you pick it up and start playing. I can hook you up with some tips that will shorten your learning curve. Not cheats, just tips for calculating distances and lofting the clubs and such.

Re: TGC Tours?
You have me pretty intrigued by this. I checked out that website and browsed it some.
I have a PS4 at home, a MAC, and a Chrome book. My internet connection at home is pretty slow (Thanks Verizon DSL). What do I look into as far as the game itself? You mentioned downloading the game. From where do I do that? I'd like to see some screenshots of the game itself as well.

Re: TGC Tours?
Here is a link to The Golf Club website (HB Studios sells the game): http://thegolfclubgame.com/. There are screen shots here I believe. It looks like there is a forum there as well; might be able to help out with connectivity and the process for buying the game on your PS4 (I looked quickly and nothing stuck out, but I'm sure you could do a search).7teen wrote:You have me pretty intrigued by this. What I did (and I have an xbox1) is log into my xbox and then went into the search area from the menu and found the game and purchased it through my xbox. I don't actually have the CD. I downloaded it onto my xbox. I have internet through AT&T U-verse which is generally fine. I imagine using a controller is a heck of a lot easier than trying to figure it out using a mouse. So I would recommend getting it for your PS4, but if you can hook up a controller to your PC maybe that would be fine too. I hadn't ever bought a game this way, so it must have been pretty easy (at least it is on the xbox).
You might be able to find some info on connectivity and even playing on a PC vs PS4 on the TGC Tour Forums: http://tgctours.proboards.com/.
It's a really cool game and it's amazing how easily they can make a course super easy or ridiculously hard by just changing a few settings/pin placements.
Let me know if I can help you out more. I believe that sometime in the middle of next year HB Studios is coming out with TGC2, but don't quote me on the release date. If you are into golf games, you will definitely get your money's worth out of this game.

Re: TGC Tours?
Here's a video of some guy (obviously from the east coast) playing TGC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuyWpA_qy0E.
He's dropping the f-bomb quite a bit, so if that offends you don't watch. He is terrible at the game, but he does show off the game and some of things that can happen. His commentary is like being in someone's living room while they are playing a video game by themselves. I had a hard time not laughing but it does show you the game.
There are several reviews and "vlogs" on youtube.com that you can also watch about the game. I just couldn't resist this one!

Re: TGC Tours?
Definitely looks like a fun game. I'm going to check on downloading it here soon. Maybe tonight. I have a "real" round of golf to play with a buddy today after work with dinner on the line and then my oldest boy has some baseball tournaments this weekend. But it looks fun.
Just hope my internet at home is cooperative enough to actually play this the right way.

Definitely would curb the fun if the internet speed interfered...Travel Baseball? I umpire High School baseball and work some travel ball in the Indianapolis area. My oldest son is beginning his 12U season right now. From August through to next July, he will play approximately 70-80 games (We won't play any from November to March). We typically play in about 2 tournaments a month with about 4 games played per tournament. My two oldest sons (12 and 8) love baseball and its all they want to do. Both play travel ball over LL due to the rules and better competition.Bumstead wrote:Definitely would curb the fun if the internet speed interfered...Travel Baseball? I coached some HS ball several years ago both baseball and basketball. Consolidation in our area shut the HS down I was coaching at. When that happened, I got out of the HS coaching and decided to focus more on my own kids. I've considered getting into umpiring once my kids are done playing. Umps here make about $300 a weekend for travel games.

It depends on how many games you are willing to do. Our assignor has worked out a deal where we get $55 a game. Some guys will work 4 or 5 games a day. I made about $400 or $500 one weekend...that was too many games!7teen wrote:My oldest son is beginning his 12U season right now. Re: TGC Tours?
9U-12U here gets paid $35 a game with a 90 minute time limit on all games. 8U gets paid $30 with a 60 minute time limit. Ive always wanted to umprie 8U because it is coach pitch. All you have to do is call safe and out and track how many strikes the kid swung at and how many pitches have been thrown. Some of the guys here will work 5 games a day for both days.Bumstead wrote:

Re: TGC Tours?
Picked it up, boy does my short game suck!
Fun game, I enjoy the realism though my laptop isn't quite beefy enough to enjoy it on the highest settings. Trying to figure out the chipping/putting is my biggest difficulty right now. I think my handicap rating is like +15, but I could probably compete at the lower levels if I could figure out those areas. I generally cost myself 2-6 strokes a round because of a bad putt/chip here and there, and with a shaky short game, it makes it difficult to recover from a bad shot so a stray tee shot turns into a bogey pretty quickly.
Still a fun game. I'll be doing the Q-school soon. (I put in a couple of rounds, but I'm something like +30 after 4 rounds and trying to decide if I let the month roll over and restart, or finish the last 2)
Probably the best golf game I've played since Links LS

I'm definitely downloading the game once I return from my Seattle trip this week. I'm slammed this week with work and planning since I fly out Thursday morning and am driving to Charlotte Wednesday night to catch the flight.

I keep that page open any time I am playing. Learn to flop; the way this game is set up, flopping can really get you tight to the hole. Pitching is a good thing to learn as well. The math on the approaches will really help. Here's a link to the post on TGCtours.com: http://tgctours.proboards.com/thread/96 ... ng-putting.
Putting just comes with practice. There are many tips in the Driving Range section of the forums on TGCTours. I use a combination of boomer's tips and my own experience. The key is to set that bar at the distance and direction you want to hit. There is some built in forgiveness when you use that.
I think I shot +87 in Q School. I know on the first hole I hit in the water so may times that they just moved me to the next hole without letting me finish hole #1...I was brutal at that point. They will start you in CC-E unless you do very well. I went from E to Z to E to D and now I just moved to C. Playoffs start next week, which will be fun. If you can get through Q School, you can play the playoffs and get assigned based on how you do in those 4 tournaments.
I won my first tournament this past week. It was pretty fun. I'm hoping to get slotted into A or B for next season.
Let me know if you have any questions.

As with the game, yeah; I remember that the flop shot is good with a lot of golf games. It's easier to judge distance and you don't have to worry about break or obstacles
Thank you for the links, using the carry chart has been a help. I am 3 over after 12 in my latest round, and that's including a triple bogey on the first hole when I completely mis-hit my drive and four(!) putted.

Re: TGC Tours?
Playoffs started this week with lots of opportunities to get moved up a level or two. I roared out of the gate with a -9 first round that was only topped by a few people who shot -10 (at the A & B level; I was leading in C). Then I went -8 combined the next 3 rounds...sigh...my putting goes from Smokin' to cold as ice...The courses are only going to get harder as the playoffs progress. I need to start grinding.

Re: TGC Tours?
I shot +10 in the first two rounds (was +2 then made some bad decisions and had a few missed puts to go +8 in round 2). For some reason, I can't continue though. When I go back to that tour, it starts me in round 1

Re: TGC Tours?
Heh, to underscore my inconsistency in this game. I shot an 80 in round 2 and a 67 in round 4
