For the first time since 1997, three players have been elected to the Hall of Fame from the same ballot. Congratulations to Allen Izatt, Mike Clarke and...wait for it...Riley Hinson! Dwayne Johnson falls a single point short of election and will have to wait until next year. Depending on what the three managers who didn't vote would have done, two of those players might not have gotten in, and Johnson might have succeeded. Alas...we shall never know!

Allen Izatt is a two-time Pitcher of the Year who finished his career with 256 Wins, 3692 Ks and an ERA+ of 142. A two-time ERA champion and six time All Star, his greatest skill was keeping the ball in the park, leading the league three times in fewest HR/9.

Mike "OBP Jesus" Clarke finishes with 2807 hits, 326 homers and a .332 batting average. He hit .379 for Baltimore in 1995 to take home the Silk Award and was a four-time batting champion.

Riley Hinson, the Commish's favorite who has seen varied support since joining the ballot in 2003 finally gets enough support to make his way to the Hall as the FIRST CATCHER EVER SELECTED! The 9-time All Star is one of the better hitting catchers in league history with 2231 hits, 252 homers and an OPS+ of 120, not to mention 3 Slick Fielder Awards.

Nice to see Izaat and OBP Jesus get in. Hinson was damn good. I'm kinda surprised he's the first ever catcher though...

"Should" and "will" get in are two different things. Just shows that sometimes voters mess up.

Ted Dever was better than Gunga in every facet of the game. More saves, lower ERA, more Ks, higher WAR, better ERA+, and on and on and on... But Gunga occupies the hall and Dever will never make it I'm afraid.

How on earth did Gunga get into the Hall?

I was a GM for most of his tenure in the league. He had a handful of great years, and was otherwise ordinary.

Dever is clearly the better of the two. Although I could point out that Washington has better stats than either.

There will be 5-7 closers who will go down as better than Gunga. Of those, 2-3 will get into the hall and the rest will get left out. Gunga only got in because he had an award in his name and he held a record.

There are some people who consistently put all relievers at the bottom of their ballots. As such, those guys stand little or no chance. Gunga got in on the strength of being the All Time leader in saves and having the award named for him, based on discussion at the time. Even with that, it took a few seasons, as I recall.

Congrats to Hinson... recte finally can break open that can of PBR that's been sitting there for years..

I'd be all for giving the award names an update. Puckett, Egan and... maybe Stoller (until Strath/Daffy retire, anyway)?

I recall the same thing. Seems like the year he got in there was a bunch of discussion that he should be in just because the award was named for him.

I voted Dever 3rd on my ballot this season. Based on our Hall "standards" haha. And not to mention he was named the best at his position 4 times during his 16 season career. No one else on the ballot won more individual awards than Dever. LaSalle was next with 3 Nebraska Awards.

Makes you question which is more impressive or hold more weight... Being named as an all-star of a team of 27-30 guys or being considered the best at what you do for an entire season.

I went back and looked it up... Gunga received 466 points and since the league resumed on this forum, that is the fewest number of points any Hall of Famer has received thus far. In fact, we've had players get more votes and not get in. And Gunga actually had years of more points and NOT get in based off the standards. Here was his vote total...

Crazy ballot that season. Hayden Finch finished dead last in 15th place on that ballot but finished 3rd last season on his final season of eligibility.

Today I feel like dancing. Congrats, Riley; and congrats voters for getting it right.

I don't know about that. Bopper Kengos has a heck of an argument too. By the time he's done, the career record book will be nearly untouchable.
