I considered putting Menne at #1 (he was #2 on mine) ahead of Sale since I knew the latter was a veritable lock and the former would probably need a bit of a boost.

While I like how Moonie does the HOF balloting, it is starting to resemble my high school basketball coaching days when coaches manipulated their All-Conferece Ballots to try and get their players on the All-Conference team.

Part of the fun, in my opinion! It takes a lot of people agreeing to such manipulation to get a guy above the required number. Someone put Zebediah Williams #1 on this ballot. Homer vote, I would assume. I honestly don't recall at the moment who it was. He still finishes almost last, because everyone else would think that laughable.

I shilled for Menne for several years and voted him first myself on a few ballots, but he just couldn't get it done.

In the end, the best guys get in, and a few borderline guys get in. Other borderline guys are out, and discussion ensues about it. Just like real life.

I agree with both of you, but I'd also just like to point out that if you don't think there are 'homer' votes in the real MLB HOF vote then you're naive, Chris.

I will say, though, that a certain honor code should be observed for RIDICULOUS homer votes since, unlike the real MLB HOF vote, placement matters on the ballot - and placing 'your' guy at #1 (when he is really a #10) knocks all other 9 players behind him down 1 peg.

I will do this. I will put a marginal guy up pretty high if its his last year or two on the ballot. Likewise i will place a marginal guy very low if it if his first year on the ballot. Unless there is a guaranteed lock, I tend to vote any first time player pretty low on their first ballot. In recent memory, Sale and Howell were first ballot #1s for me.

I'm suggesting that there is no such thing as a wrong vote, with the exception of the "I don't give a crap. Just put them anywhere" vote. Thankfully, I don't get the sense that there are a lot of those, at least at the top of the ballot. You vote how you vote. That's why it is important that everyone puts a ballot in so that the percentages work out.

And not that it's that important, or maybe it is somewhat, I did turn in a valid ballot. With some thought on it. At least to the top 5 and the bottom 5, and the middle 5 kind of took care of themselves.

What I am saying is that I did vote. This as an encouragement for league participation and other GMs to not take my post about not voting seriously....
