2008 Hall of Fame Ballot
Re: 2008 Hall of Fame Ballot
I vote Menne high all the time, as I did jebediah Williams and a couple folks who didn't make the HOF vote. Which has called the HOF inductee process into question by some GMs (not me, although the voting is not one of my favorite things to do, and I wish it were compulsory--of course it is not, if one wants to take a 2 point hit on PPs, or whatever the penalty is).

Re: 2008 Hall of Fame Ballot
Singing my song on Menne. I have no idea why he doesn't get more attention.
As for those who would call the system into question because Zebediah Williams doesn't get voted in...exactly what system would the guy get voted in on? If most of the voters put him last in this system, do you think he would get 75% support in a "normal" system? I think not. In fact, I don't know of a guy that has not been voted in using this system who would have gotten 75%.
The system gets in 1.5 players per year on average. Just like real life. That's a reasonable measure of its success, in my opinion.

Re: 2008 Hall of Fame Ballot
I really like the system, actually. The points awarded each slot helps simulate the large number of votes in real life.
For the record, Menne, Jr. was #2 on my ballot - count me in on "fighting the good fight" for him.

Re: 2008 Hall of Fame Ballot
Unfortunately, it is likely to be too little, too late for Menne, and that is really too bad. He has been one of the top two or three hitters on the ballot every year while playing shortstop. Seems that the counting stats totals just weren't enough to attract attention. Oh well. So be it. The people have spoken!
Re: 2008 Hall of Fame Ballot
Well, the people have spoken poorly on Menne, if he doesn't get voted in.
Re: 2008 Hall of Fame Ballot
I had him 3rd as well.

Re: 2008 Hall of Fame Ballot
Well, it sounds like he has 5 high votes so far (a #2, 2 #3s and 2 undisclosed, but admittedly high). All he needs to do is average just slightly above a #3 vote across all votes to get in... maybe I should have voted him #1 since Sale was a slam dunk anyway.

Re: 2008 Hall of Fame Ballot
In my last 3 ballots, I have had Menne 5th, 3rd, and this year 7th. This year, I decided to give some of the pitchers some love and bumped them up a few spots on my ballot and conversely moved Menne down.

The balloting is not secret. You are welcome to vote here. I will not reveal any individual's vote without their permission. In addition, if a voter knows exactly where the voting stands, it will/could affect how they vote.
