Doh, I meant to petition you to get Long Chamberlain on this year's ballot and forgot. Maybe next season.

Gary Barr is a lock in my opinion. I rarely vote anyone #1 on my first ballot...but he gets it for me.

I think he disappeared a season or two before we started doing this. Mysteriously, magically dropped from the league history.

He was close to 600 homers when he died and was easily one of the league's most amazing hitters. I say we just put him in. You guys let me know what you think.

Looking through past posts about Long Chamberlain, he had 592 homers, 1477 RBI, 1212 runs scored and a 135 OPS+. There are 4 players listed in our history with 60 or more homers in a season with Joe Belinda holding the record with 64. None of those 4 did it twice. Chamberlain hit more than 64 twice, with a massive league record of 73 (67 in the other) and a third season with 63. Belinda holds the league record with 180 RBI in a season, a whopping 21 more than second place. Chamberlain had 182 in 1986. He had the second most runs scored in a season that year as well.

I think Chamberlain should be in. On the ballot or off the ballot.

I just wish he hadn't disappeared from our league's history.

2006 Hall of Fame Ballot

Post by JimBob2232 » Mon Aug 20, 2012 5:08 am

Maybe this is something to be taken up by a veterans committee :)

I kid. I kid.

Speaking of that, I think that anybody who has a major gripe with someone who has been left out should always feel free to bring it up. While we don't have any sort of Veteran's Committee, that doesn't mean we don't have a democratic system where someone who has been truly wronged can be put in. You don't need rules to do the right thing.

That said, with how much voting is all over the place on each ballot, it would be very difficult for most "overlooked" players to get any sort of consensus agreement on their election.

For example, I have no idea in the world Rashardo Menne, Jr. doesn't get more attention. He is usually the best batter on the ballot in terms of OPS+. He hit 228 homers and stole 579 bases. He walked over 1100 times. On top of that, he was a shortstop. In a sheer comparison, he stands out over almost every person he has been on a ballot with. Still, he has been on the ballot since 1999 and gets middling attention from voters. If he doesn't make it, it seems I wouldn't get a lot of support from people who put him 8th on their ballot every year.

I find it interesting for some reason that after the first weekend of voting, the entire FL Midwest has voted but only one team from the whole JL has done so. That probably says something. I have no idea what it says.

As the new guy, I'll admit I'm not entirely sure what to do for the ballots.

Where do I fill mine out?

Just download the file from the link in the first post. Rank all 15 players in the upper section of the spreadsheet, and cut and paste the results from the lower section in a PM to me.
