2004 Hall of Fame Ballot
Not a single, worthy soul to add to the ballot this year. However, I missed Dave Manzanillo and Riley Hinson last year and decided to add them on. Zebediah Williams remains as someone out there has to want to vote for the all-time stolen base leader. Emile Santos also makes a return as the all-time doubles leader. He didn't get much attention last time, and this will be his last chance. Braggo Franco, Jack Maverick and Sam Kirkpatrick are also on their last ballots. Kirkpatrick in particular may deserve more notice than he has been getting up to this point.
Ballots due to me by the end of the Championship Series.

Re: 2004 Hall of Fame Ballot
Riley Hinson should be in for sure. If Dickey Brinkman is in, Hinson should be a slam dunk.

Re: 2004 Hall of Fame Ballot
Really?? you think so? I realize they are both Catchers, but their numbers are not eye-popping at all. Hinson is clearly better than Brinkman...but I am going to have a hard time putting someone with those kinds of numbers in the Hall. I am not sure Brinkman should be in either....but no point in arguing that!recte44 wrote:Riley Hinson should be in for sure. If Dickey Brinkman is in, Hinson should be a slam dunk.
I hope this is the year Groves FINALLY gets in. I think he really deserves it.

Hinson has the most All-Star appearances of ANYONE ON THE BALLOT. Consider that.

Hey for those of us newer to the league, it's great to see you vets lobby and argue for who should be in the Hall. I hate to base my decisions purely on stats. Stats are only one measure of a guys significance.

I guess thats a valid point...Hard to believe that there has not been catchers with better offensive numbers in the past.recte44 wrote:Hinson has the most All-Star appearances of ANYONE ON THE BALLOT. Consider that.

Re: 2004 Hall of Fame Ballot
At first glance it looks like Groves, Gunga O, and Rockefeller are the most deserving but nobody is a slam dunk. I can see 9 or 10 active players that I'd rank higher than those on the ballot this year if they were to retire now.

Re: 2004 Hall of Fame Ballot
Yeah, thats pretty much how I see it as well...Gunga has been feast or famine. People either put him in the top 3 or in the bottom half for some reason...Rockefeller is hard because he was half starter/half reliever...not that it should disqualify him, but its harder to see his greatness. Groves on the other hand has alot of hits, average, sb, 3b...no power really, but he had all the other tools.indiansfan wrote:At first glance it looks like Groves, Gunga O, and Rockefeller are the most deserving but nobody is a slam dunk. You sure? Partial results or individual ballots can bias remaining voters. Not that it's that critical, but still...jcrmoon42 wrote:Anybody is welcome to post their ballot here if they don't mind it being public.

Re: 2004 Hall of Fame Ballot
Sure, it can bias things if people allow themselves to be biased. I doubt anybody will be tracking the balloting to determine who they vote for though.bateague wrote:You sure? As far as I'm concerned, anything that can increase ballot discussion is okay with me.
By the way, I will try to update the list of who has turned in ballots either tomorrow or Monday.

Voted.
Call me crazy, but I put Gunga #1.
461 saves is majorly impressive.

Re: 2004 Hall of Fame Ballot
With just over half the ballots received, the balloting is just as interesting as expected. Six players have first place ballots, and three of those six also have last place ballots. One player currently has enough points to get in, but not by a large margin. Two or three more are definitely within striking distance. As usual, every ballot counts!
