Re: 2053, BBA All-Star Voting Chatter
Voting made me realize just how defensive minded things are in this league regarding shortstop.
Also reminded me I need to find better ways to vote for pitching.

I’m finally realizing how many of the best players in the league are specifically 31-34 years old, especially 32.

Re: 2053, BBA All-Star Voting Chatter
So, just curious… how do you guys select relief pitchers for all-star teams? Personally, I start by sorting the contenders by saves. If a pitcher has a lot of saves with not any losses and a good WHIP, in they go. Then I sort by holds and do the same. Finally, I sort by innings pitched and try to find a guy who has successfully eaten a lot of relief innings.
I admit, when it comes to position players I only check defensive metrics when it’s a really close call between guys with similar offensive stats.

I generally use some combination of WPA, WHIP, FIP and WAR (roughly in that order of precedence).chicoruiz wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 2:13 pmSo, just curious… how do you guys select relief pitchers for all-star teams? Re: 2053, BBA All-Star Voting Chatter
I start with saves but only if it's ungodly high vs rest of league, then look at holds and shut downs. After that I hit up WHIP, FIP. and Ks. I try not to use WAR much but I do review it.usnspecialist wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 3:25 pmI generally use some combination of WPA, WHIP, FIP and WAR (roughly in that order of precedence).chicoruiz wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 2:13 pmSo, just curious… how do you guys select relief pitchers for all-star teams? Without looking at the game, I don’t believe it tracks blown saves, which to my mind is a shame…

First WAR to see who has pitched a lot of innings, then FIP, ERA, K%chicoruiz wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 2:13 pmSo, just curious… how do you guys select relief pitchers for all-star teams? Re: 2053, BBA All-Star Voting Chatter
I lean toward successful closers, because the fans don't care so much about middle relievers. Saves may catch my attention first, but ERA/FIP, WAR, and whatever sense of "dominance' I can determine help me with closer calls. It is cool when a middle reliever stands out.

Usually sort by WPA then use FIP.
