Now I've said I'm not someone who doesn't vote for someone only to vote for them later or vice versa. But some cases have been made for guys and against guys that have changed my mind. Also, some of these guys, I just don't feel I can vote for without more evaluation and that won't happen this round of voting. If anyone on the fence for me was on the last year, I'd do the research but they should be around next year, and hopefully I'll have more time, or you guys can make the decision for me and just vote them in or out now. :D

Why, whatever do you mean?....

UPDATED TO ADD CARLOS GONZALES...my apologies to the Carlos, his family and the BBA.

Please re-vote whether you think he’s a Hall of Famer or not. Adjusting the poll resets all votes...sorry!

Because it's a lot to look at all the candidates and sometimes oversights happen. And I prefixed that in my post. Anyway, looked again and added him.

Also, formatting, I just gyazo'd it.

I'm curious as the your thinking about voting for six people. If it surprised you because you are a small hall guy, that's fair. If it's surprising because it seems like a lot on one ballot, well, I think that might make for a fun discussion.

My viewpoint has always been that you should never concern yourself with how many you vote for. If fifteen Hall of Famers are on one ballot, you vote for 15 guys. The MLB 10 vote limit is stupid, and always has been, It has nothing to do with anything.

If people are voting in such a way that they feel they can only vote a certain number of times in a given year, that basically forces you either to have to vote more than that number of times in the future or not put in guys who are deserving if you stick to your limit. When you delay the induction of guys that should get in, the ballot gets bloated. The only way that gets fixed is waiting for a year of no HOF worthy guys retiring, which is very uncommon. And then people that might deserve it get pushed off the ballot before they have a chance. This is what has happened over and over in MLB. It's why MLB has the ridiculous path of guys often taking 7 to 8 years to get in, and doing shit like going 15->17->22->30->38->49->65->78 before induction. That's idiocy. In 8 seasons, a decade after a guy played, there's that big of a shift in the perception of his career? Of course not. It's literally people not being allowed to vote for guys that deserve it based on a vote limit, and a number of old school guys thinking they can't vote for more than 3 to 5 guys in any year because of wrong thinking. It's caused massive ballot bloat and compounds itself as a problem almost every year. People even openly admit they would have voted for a guy but they ran into their artificial vote limit so they had to wait until the next year when they cleared someone they like more off.

If you think the guy is HOF, vote for him. Don't be concerned about voting for too many positives. If we all did this, the ballot would be smaller, and you'd likely never even have to worry about this. Voting for "too many guys" doesn't make the Hall get bigger. It just keeps ballots to reasonable size.

Anyway, I'm not saying you did this, Niles. If those are the only 6 guys you thought Hall worthy, then great. It's just that knowing that this is an issue in real life MLB HOF balloting, I wonder if it is here.

Thanks for asking for why I felt this way...I was more surprised by voting in 6 because I am a small hall guy and usually there are only 2-3 guys that I feel deserve to be in the hall of fame each year. Because I am a small hall of fame guy, the guys I vote for are usually inducted because others feel they deserve it as well so they aren't typically on the ballot again for the following year for me to continue voting for.

Last year that didn't hold true as three of the guys I voted for failed to get in. My philosophy on the HOF is that if I vote for a guy the first year, then I will vote for him each season after until he falls off or gets in because he was good in the first ballot to get in and that doesn't change.

The same goes the other way in that I won't vote for a guy the second year if he wasn't on my original ballot.

If there are arguments for someone to get in or not be put in, then they need to be heard the first year as there aren't typically "new relevant arguments" on retired players HOF worthiness. I also think it's stupid to not vote someone in just so they aren't a "first ballot hall of famer". Who the fuck cares(pardon my language). A hall of famer is a hall of famer regardless of whether they were first ballot or last ballot. They are looked at the same in my eyes.

As for limiting the number of people I vote in, I don't have a limit. If I felt there were 20 players deserving of being in the hall of fame in one season, I would vote in 20.

@niles08 @usnspecialist Niles, thanks for the response. I think I remember you saying you were a small hall guy. I'm just curious about the way people think about voting. It's interesting to me. Debating I feel is the best way for me to refine my thinking process and learn I might have been wrong about something, which believe it or not, I occasionally do (just not when it's @aaronweiner).

I do wonder about the thought of not changing your mind ever. I agree, I rarely do that. And I'm totally on board with the "First Ballot" being a bunch of BS nonsense. Every once in a while, someone makes an argument that changes my mind about a guy I was borderline on. Usually what 'm convinced of is not something about an individual player, but more about a type of player I've been viewing incorrectly the whole time. It's almost always from no to yes. I feel like I'm a medium size Hall person, so there are for me a lot of guys the small Hall people wouldn't take, and the big Hall people would.
