2022, Hall of Fame Results

The voting is done for 2022, and the MBBA Hall of Fame will be welcoming two new members to its ranks.
1B Alberto "Pops" Guzman, Long Beach Surfers
Guzman might be the last player to go in as a Surfer (now the Tucson Cactus). What a career he had, culminating in a 100% election to the Hall of Fame. It all started in High School, where with IBM he was probably the best high school player in history. He was picked #1 overall by Long Beach in 2002, and started his climb through the minors. He debuted in 2005, and his first two years in the bigs were both .800+ OPS years. In 2007, he became an uber-star, as his OPS soared to 1.001, the first of four times in his career that he crossed the magic 1.000 OPS mark. It would also be the first of six times he hit 40 or more homers, and the first of ten times that he drove in 100 or more runs. 2007 was also the year of his first All-Star election, something he would accomplish twelve times in his MBBA career. He also won his first Sawyer Silk Award in 2007. He'd end up winning three (2007, 2009, 2010). Career leaderboards: OBP (20th), SLG (19th), Runs (15th), Hits (22nd), Total Bases (14th), Home Runs (8th), RBI (10th), BB (9th).
SP Michael "Boy Scout" Strathallan, Marquette Suns
Like Guzman for the Surfers, Strathallan might be the last hurrah for the Marquette Suns (now Indy Grasshoppers). He was elected with 77.27% of the vote after struggling to get into the Hall for a few seasons. While Strat's career may have lacked in length, the peak years were as Nebraska-esque as any pitcher in the modern era. Strathallan was the #1 overall pick in the 2004 Draft by the Louisville Sluggers. He did make it up to the bigs in September 2005 for a cup of coffee with the Sluggers, where he was 1-3 with a 3.95 ERA in 4 starts. In the offseason, he was dealt to Marquette in a ten player mega-deal. As I called it in that thread, Marquette certainly got the better end of the deal, as Strathallan became the most feared pitcher in the league for a stretch. He won 20 games four times, struck out more than 200 batters in a season seven times. He was the 2006 JL Joe Gillstrom Newcomer of the Year winner. He won the Steve Nebraska Award in three consecutive seasons (2010, 2011, 2012) and was a six time MBBA All-Star. In 2014 Omaha traded seven players to get Strathallan. He won a total of 13 games as a Barnstormer, and underwent Tommy John surgery in June of 2015. Shortly thereafter the Barnstormers dealt him to Calgary for three prospects who wouldn't work out, and after recovering from the surgery he struggled to comeback in 2016, but had a brief resurgence in 2017. It wasn't the same guy, though, and after being relegated to the bullpen in 2018, he left the MBBA for the EBA. He pitched two seasons for the Amsterdam Neptunes, and then called it a career after the 2020 season.
