2014 Hall of Fame Final Tally

Post by jcrmoon42 » Tue Mar 25, 2014 3:23 pm

Congratulations to Ross White and Dwayne Johnson on their election to the Hall of Fame. White, a three time Batter of the Year and seven time All Star, was elected in his third year, having seen spotty support the past couple of years due largely to having a shorter career than most candidates. Johnson makes the ballot in his sixth year, having been one of the more contested candidates in the past, in spite of his 498 career homers. Would he have gotten in sooner with two more homers. Perhaps, but it doesn't matter now as he has been duly enshrined with the immortals. This was the last year on the ballot for seven time All Star first baseman, Flavio Luna, who has been consistently one of the best hitters on the ballot but apparently didn't have the career numbers to gain traction when compared to other players.

Here is your final tally. 483 points needed for election.

Ross White - (1)-11, (2)-1, (3)-1, (4)-3, (5)-2, (8)-1, (10)-1, (11)-1, Total - 635

Not too much scandal in this year's final tally. Hopefully next year sees Lasalle get in and Wortman+Santos off the ballot. ;)

Both very worthy...and also one of the most standard distributions of HOF votes i have seen in a while.

Lasalle would have made it instead of Johnson if I had not given the extra time to turn in ballots! He certainly has a reasonable shot at some point.

As for moving those guys off the list, there were some long-career players who retired, but I don't know if there were many better than Wortman and Santos. We shall see.

White is a solid pick... I wasn't as big of a fan of Johnson... #6 on my ballot. I also had Foodie last so what the heck do I know..

Agreed on White and Johnson. I personally don't think Johnson is a HOF player. I think I also had him around 6th on my ballot. Of course with that said, every one around him on the HR and RBI leaderboard is in so hard to deny it.
