Born: May 3, 1948 in the United States
Drafted: 1st round, 20th overall pick, by California in 1973 MBBA Dispersal Draft
All-Star selections: 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1981
Landis Memorial Series titles: 1979

Jon McNecirty, who hung up his spikes after the 1987 season with a career .291 batting average and 377 homeruns, spent 15 seasons in the MBBA, from its inception in 1973 to his final year of 1987.

California selected McNecirty with inaugural draft, expecting much from the 25-year-old third baseman. He lived up to those expectations, leading the team in homers (33), RBIs (91) and batting average (.312) and helping the Crusaders to the JL wild card. McNecirty posted 111.7 XR and 25.9 OWS marks in his rookie campaign.

Over the next 10 seasons, McNecirty and California made the postseason five times, including a Landis Memorial Series championship in 1979. During that decade, Jon never put up fewer than 12.6 wins shares, reaching or breaking the 20-WS barrier three times. He also was selected as an All Star seven times during that span.

That consistency over such a long period of time helped McNecirty finish his career as the MBBA leader in at-bats (8,592), total bases (4,042) and RBIs (1,326). He also finished second in hits (2,498), singles (1,755) and homers (377).

His best season came in 1981 when he posted career highs in home runs (35), RBIs (118) and average (.330).

McNecirty -- who spent his final season and a half with Greenville -- finished as the Crusaders' career leader in singles (1,636), doubles (297), triples (44) and homers (349).

After his only full season with the Moonshiners in 1987, McNecirty retired and was elected to the MBBA Hall of Fame on his first ballot.
