The BBA Today #69 - Spring Training, Trades, and the Hall of Fame

Post by RonCo » Thu Nov 26, 2020 10:54 am

It's March of 2045, and Ted Schmidt and Ron Collins get together to discuss certain current events that include pontification about just what the subject line says--Spring Training, Trades, and the Hall of Fame. Along the way you'll hear exciting ideas around contract values and just what replacement level might mean. I'm just not sure how much more excitement a person can stand, am I right?

These need to be required listening.

It's like an owners manual.

Just because I speak loudly and certainly doesn't mean I'm right. My advice is good, but not the only way. I do appreciate the praise though, and I'm sure Ron does as well.

Thanks for more positive words about EP. You were right, signing players like England, Quicker and other towards the end of the window was not solely about any one thing. I needed to do my best to keep the FI up in the face of a losing season so the addition of every 50, 55 or 60 rated player would help there especially if they were popular or better. I think all my signings fulfilled that, mostly on three years or less deals. So if it all goes tits up within the next three years I can start again with cheap players to suit the lack of revenue I’ll probably be making. If it goes well these guys should slowly up the win total, maintain my new found revenue and give me the money to upgrade more positions year by year.

That’s the plan anyway, l’m gambling a lot on my young pitchers being able to add 5-10 more wins than the old Aviator rotation managed. If they can do that and my FA signings can add perhaps another 5-10 wins then we might be moving with our projected $120 million revenue this year. Fail, and you can see EP going the same way as Wichita. It’s a fine margin

You might not always be right Ted, and I’ve disagreed several times with your thoughts, but between you and Ron there’s some real nuggets. Not having had a baseball childhood or indeed first 30 odd years it’s good to get in depth with what’s going on

Seeing as how these podcasts aren't really UMEBA-centric, I probably shouldn't get as interested in these podcasts as I invariably do... Great stuff...

We need to do something around the UMEBA, too.

A lot of discussed GM concepts and game theory can certainly be carried over and used in the UMEBA.
