Unchained w/ Sacramento's Doug Holmstead
New week, new guest. We dedicate this entire show to the Sacramento Mad Popes this week, meaning there is no winner or loser of the week or "big story". The Mad Popes are all of those things. We talk about Doug's GM mentality, the Popes outlook for this season after the massive trades, and just for @usnspecialist I look for potential trading partners for the Popes. @bigmike13 that's you.
Ron, please make sure Doug gets his PPT for joining me!
We're always looking for volunteers to join in! If you want to come on and talk about your team and sit in the hot chair let me know!

I think the audience for Slugger content backed by my mellifluous tones is limitless, so I’m willing to venture beyond the safe space of Ron’s podcasts....

I think you should trade for Zeitler right before you go on...

Commenting as I listen. I totally get that coming into a system you didn't build and riding it out, successful or otherwise is boring. You don't feel any ownership.
Also, I really like the last 2 deals for you. Ron and I will talk about them some more today on the BBA today.

Re: Unchained w/ Sacramento's Doug Holmstead
So, you're probably tired of hearing me say this, but you're going to hit like that every year in the early part until you do something about the park. Your guys are playing in 50 degree weather with mildly decreased BA and massively suppressed HR rates. Your batters are essentially trying to hit bowling balls.
Sacramento as configured isn't truly an extreme pitchers park. But the early season cold weather makes it absolutely absurd in the early part of the year. That's how it was for me and why I changed it. I also expect you to heat up in the summer once it warms. But the only way to get through those early months intact is to have so much pitching that you can absolutely shut down other teams because no one will hit. The better option is to probably help your bats out by making it a little easier to hit.
