BBA Today - Episode 47: Mid April Showers Bring BBA Flowers?
Ted and Ron spend another hour or so talking about events in and around the BBA, talking about surprise and looking at the always-fun ridiculous projections that come withe early May. Then there are trades to look at, and the draft, and a bit of a rambling over Ted's view that "pitchers' parks are bad."

Good grief, I hope you haven't been working on this since we recorded it this morning. Also, we are now 0-2 on pronouncing my name correctly. It's one thing for you to substitute the English version of my last name last time around during the introduction. It's another entirely for me to mess it up myself.

I took a break in there, but I admit to doing a touch more work on this one than others just because I got going on it and then ...

Love the Amos discussion. I didn't for a second think about converting Amos to RP. I imagine at a 13 knuckleball that it's diminishing returns.

I should note that using the Pythagorean record estimator, as long as the runs scale on bot sides the park factor should not result in any difference in winning percentage.

Whitten was the first pick of the expansion draft for Charm City. Hit .299 in 2449 PA's for us. Wasn't great but he was solid and got us the FI boost I was looking for when I took him. I think he sneakily had a nice career. 2304 hits and 290 HR's. 121 OPS+ and 122 wRC+. Definitely buoyed by those years in Brooklyn though.
It's good to hear you guys doing this together and having a good time. Good stuff.

Commenting as I listen. I also like the player pool, Ted. It is good for the league to have drafts likes this more often. We don't need the guys with all the money at the back end regularly getting 60+ rated studs. There should be Top 5-10 guys. After that, you should have to squint to find gems.

It's fair to say that the deep draft pools in the late 30s is what is fueling YS9 now.

Re: BBA Today - Episode 47: Mid April Showers Bring BBA Flowers?
Several of mine did lump. See 2038 #1 Frank Cameron, who is now just cannon fodder. And I traded two or three, too. Butt those drafts were so deep, and I had arranged so many comp pics, that those classes are making a huge difference. I mean, people talk often about the luck of finding Dong-po Thum for free in the IC, and that's not wrong. Add Tiernan O'Macken in there, too. But those guys couldn't win much in this league without a whole lot of help...the reason this team is still good is not those guys. The reason we're so good is because we're so deep...(let's ignore the fact that we don't have a little yellow trophy in my avatar for now, shall we?)
Guys on my roster from those drafts:
C - Jesus Rodriguez: 38 - 1 Sup
C - Bruce Mckinley: 39 - 2nd round
1B/DH - Mark Haynes: 37 -1 Sup
SS - Luis Pena 37: - 1 Sup
LF - Rex Foster 39: - First Round
RF - Ricardo Mendoza: 38 - second round
DH Javier Rodriguez: 36 - 1 Sup
RP - Angel Hernandez: 36 1st Round
RP - Al Colbert: 38 - 3rd round
SP/RP - Josh Henson: 38 - 5th round
RP - Armando Duarte: 38 - 7th round (hurt)
Acquired for some of those picks:
RF Bret Powers and RP Ernesto Martas: Traded 37 - 1st round Raul Luna and others
CF Arvin Duggan: Traded 37 1 Sup Kazuki Saito
3B Blaine Tyler: Traded 37 3rd round
SP Dave Lee: Traded 2038 2nd Round Cesar Torres and others
I've got two other relievers that came out of those three drafts that are providing injury insurance in AAA right now.

Another terrific listen, gentlemen.
It killed me a little to trade Silva, because I've been rooting him on for several seasons now ... but he's really a second baseman and isn't going to supplant Wattson ... which didn't leave him with much playing time. McElroy seemed like a younger, cheaper outfield version of Silva ... so there you go.
