Whats Brewing Unchained. A new podcast.

Post by niles08 » Wed Sep 09, 2020 3:12 pm

New season, new podcast. I took a bit of time to reflect and figure out what the BBA could use and want and would be interested in hearing. I came up with what is in the link below. Definitely open to suggestions or if there is something you think would really be interesting each week to you, please feel free to post below or PM me your idea.

Also...Since I am trying the new GM Unchained segment each week, I'll be looking for volunteers each week. Please volunteer and don't make me hunt someone down each week. You'll see in this week's episode just how harmless it really is. You can just talk about your team and butter up your trade prospects....

Anyhow, this week we have Joe Lederer joining me in the "Unchained" segment. I also talk about minor league's being cut down to 27, and pick a winner and loser of the week.

@ronco please be sure Joe gets his PPT points for the podcast.

Well, that was fun.

It makes sense that Joe would go for the Landis, since Heartland Division titles are off the table for him.

Good job, guys. Fun listen. I agree with Joe’s advice, too - pay attention to the constitution because there’s really useful stuff in there, and newcomers are well-advised not to make a lot of player moves until they have a sense of the league, their team, and the game. Learned that the hard way ...

This is a good format, Justin. Look forward to more!

I like the advice for newbies about not making moves until you understand the lay of the land. Although, there’s no better way to learn than to screw over your team. So trade!!! Spend!!! Screw up!!!

I actually chose to play with that strategy. I'd rather make a small mistake and get screwed over for a couple years than wait around doing nothing.

The most important advice was to settle in and have fun.

I'd hope all incoming GMs due a little homework before making any moves. I wouldn't expect anyone to do anything drastically misguided, nor would I expect any GMs to take advantage of newbies.

Since I was “one of six teams” in the mix I have no problem with what was offered to me. Plus I was probably drunk when I said that

I dunno. But the basic common sense approach of trade blocking a superstar and advertising that you are blocking him should have netted at least ten offers that would beat a single 3-4 win (at best) reliever.

And if there were six guys making offers to a new GM that hadn't even advertised that a player was up for sale, that likely just means there are four to six people trying to rip off the new guy.

For one, Neil knows his way around BBA more than most newcomers, and secondly I expressed interest in Haney and this is the deal he proposed to me after a few days of supposedly shopping him around.

And it's a massive lowball. There are no rules against taking advantage of when a new GM misjudges the market for a player. None at all. But when you take advantage of it, you get to wear it. Especially when you are on record, as quoted above, about GMs not taking advantage of newbies.

If I was one of the 6 for getting this reply on the 23rd (and then no follow up), I call bullshit.

"Haney will be traded, as I've stated to others ill look through organisations of interested parties and come up with a list, I'll contact you before the next sim. Apologies for not getting back sooner."
