BBA Today Ep. 46 - Ron and Ted Begin Something Fun ...
Join me and Ted as we take a spin through and around the BBA, touching on a wide array of stuff that touches on something from every BBA division, opinions on where a fer teams stand, digs into OOTP neep, the 27-man minor league rosters, The Cardinals and the Cubs, and maybe even a few thoughts on real GMs vs. our type. Whatever the hell that means.
With any luck we'll do this as a usual thing and I'll have to change the intro, eh?
And, yeah, just who is this Ted _Smith_ I refer to.
Sheesh.
GET IT HERE!

Yeah I agree with you guys. I said last year was somewhat of a make or break year, but this year is crucial. With a bunch of guys reaching that point where I have to pay them, some difficult decisions will have to be made if I finish under .500 again.

Of course, work would block anchor. Guess I'll just have to listen on the commute home.

Great piece guys, fully agree on the Wichita v LV topic. I’m slowly building the depth from nothing and maybe the late 40’s or early 50’s may see significant upswing.
I’m also fully in agreement with your thoughts on minor league roster sizes. I don’t believe there was ever an announcement on the matter, it was just sprung on us. I run my minors in age-appropriate mode so having 35 slots at Rookie level doesn’t really help my AA or AAA sides, I can’t have injury replacement guys of 25, 26 or 27 hanging around in Rookie ball. So as Ron says when I’ve got 15-20 injuries on the IL a month or two into the season I’m going to end up with a lot of teenagers or near teens playing up in the higher minors as that’s all I’ve got now. One sim I offer some free agents the shot at the vacancy and maybe I’m lucky they’ll sign straight away, otherwise it’s a fortnight or three weeks I’ll be playing a weakened top minor side, ruining development for both the players out of their depth and those that have to play with them.
I just can’t see the purpose of it? We all know that IL lists of 30-40 aren’t unusual meaning that you’ve got to sign the equivalent of an extra level during the season which will turn out to be a real pain. What can the reason be, it can’t be hoarding, 12 players less won’t help that, it can’t be file size as the players will still be there, just not on your team ? It will just make a ton of work for those that really manage their minors, every single sim you will have to sign people as injury replacements at some level, every sim you will have a convoy of people moving up and down the levels plugging gaps. A dtd injury to an AAA OF means players will be moving up at each level as none of them carry injury replacements, then you have to attempt to sign a replacement and when you get him, the whole convoy moves back down the levels. THAT IS A SHEDLOAD OF WORK FOR NO APPARENT GAIN AT ALL !!
CAN ANYBODY EXPLAIN THE REASON??

Having IL lists of 30-40 people at a time is absolutely unusual (at least in my experience).

I've seen it, but yeah, that many is pretty unusual. But 5 or 6 at a single level isn't. And that's a lot of minor league movement and early promotion. I''d guess most team run with 15 or so injuries at a time, if you include day to day guys you choose to rest.usnspecialist wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 7:18 amHaving IL lists of 30-40 people at a time is absolutely unusual (at least in my experience).
Think about it. What do you do with your active roster when you have an injury? You promote someone from AAA. Which means you ahve to promote a double a guy now, and then an A guy, and so on, unless you decide to run a short roster at a level. At the upper levels, this is probably fine. You can get away with 25 guys. From a simple resource allocation standpoint though, one should have a reserve somewhere so you aren't taxing your supply chain. In the current model, the reserve is in rookie ball unless you want to run an upper minor league level on a short roster. That's not really ideal.
Ideally you'd want a little padding at each level, so each can absorb a blow without disrupting the entire chain leading to it. It may be that this works out fine, and my concerns are overstated, but it could lead to a lot of extra minors movement and not ideal development situations for some, and I'm gonna guess this will lead us to several teams simply having a 20 man roster and losing 80% of their games at some levels because they don't care enough to fix it.
And again, my biggest concern is the potential for this to lead to a pitching drought, if tons of teams start running 12-13 man staffs in the lower levels because they've had to promote so many people to fill injury gaps. The league really cant a handle losing any pitching due to overuse of prospects.

If you read my recent team releases, you'd have noticed that there are only three players left from my last Landis team.
When Cannon becomes a free agent this offseason there will be two.
So I've already transitioned into Rockville 2.0. The question is whether there will be a Rockville 3.0 or not, and that I can't answer.

Yeah this is fair. I was kind of thinking about it as Ron said it.aaronweiner wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 7:50 amIf you read my recent team releases, you'd have noticed that there are only three players left from my last Landis team.

And by 30-40 IL lists I meant between all five levels not at any one level

This was wonderful, gents. Well done.
I’ve been a Cubs fan my whole life and Ernie Banks was/is my hero ... but there was no player I ever enjoyed watching more than Lou Brock. He was pure excitement, and such a class act. Like Ron, I felt like I’d been punched in the gut when I heard he’d passed away. In my mind, he’ll forever be the quick-as-lightning base thief with a sweet batting stroke .... who the Cubs traded away for Ernie Broglio. Sigh.
