What's Brewing In The Brewster. Episode 3

Post by niles08 » Wed Jul 24, 2019 7:52 am

I think this is becoming a regular thing now as this is our 3rd week in a row of hitting it on a Wednesday.

This week we:

Take a brief look around the league standings
Discuss Juan Nicto's signing
Take a look at injuries that occurred last sim.
Discuss another player that likely will find his way to the block.
Give our opinion on the worst 1st round pick of this year's draft.

Podcast time is 11:39 so I went over 10 minutes.

Listen to the podcast first before viewing. I'd hate to spoil a portion of another good episode.

Thanks! I am not sure what the heck I was doing. I fixed it in the original post as well.

I think Valencia will be ok. They probably have one of the best lineups in the league and that Haney kid can probably fill in without embarrassing himself too much.

I didn't even realize that we are only 2.5 games out of first. I knew Rockville was going to come back to mortality this year but a .500 team? Even though I have no shot at the playoffs, lingering around is helping my gate sales.

Not going to lie. I was on vacation a few weeks ago and had a rental with the tank on the opposite side of mine. I remembered all week. When I came back I took a weekend road trip straight from the airport and was still in vacation mode apparently. I pulled up on the wrong side with my own car.

I have to imagine Haney is the reason mahaffey is on the block and he will fill in just fine for rivera.

I would agree, however it's a bummer to have to start his clock despite being absolutely ready.

Ehh, I always subscribe to playing your best players regardless of service time. The timing of this should guarantee super 2 though.

I like the "play our best players" philosophy however in 2042, he may run into issues assuming Zalapa and Pagan are still on the team and are out of arbitration years. They both are likely to get $20,000,000+ AAV. Add that to Rivera's likely $15,000,000 AAV and you have 3 players who are taking up half the salary cap of your team. Now, you have Haney in super 2 status along with others in final arbitration years and you have a problem quickly. I will be curious on what he does here and the effect it has on the team in upcoming years. He hasn't called up Haney yet or announced a call up yet.

Ya that will be tricky, I will actually have the same problem in the 2040/2041 time frame. I guess where Lee and I differ is that I am far more comfortable working the trade market than he seems to be so I can wiggle myself out of those spots.

Lee's proven he's willing to make deals. The question to me (like most) is always situation dependent.

In this case, it's an interesting calculus with the All-Satr break in there making a bit of difference, too. Bringing Haney up now almost guarantees a super-two. Waiting even three weeks may, or may not, make a difference there--you'd have to go do some looking. Given that the AS break is in there gives the team four off days in there. If mid-July becomes the cut-off day for super-two, is the 17 games he'll be eligible to play worth the several million dollars you'll wind up paying him later (and the roster flexibility you lose therein). If he's a 7 WAR player, those 17 games get you .7 WAR...or maybe 1 win.

If Rivera were injured in May. I bring Haney up, because the 2-3 wins I'd get between then and mid-July is clearly worth a lot in this uber competitive year. Rivera getting hurt in late June would have me tied in knots deciding what was best.

I like the idea of checking available WiFi networks to see how widespread a power outage is - clever! The life tips at the end are a nice touch.
