2038 Frick League FA Review Podcast Part 1, The Heartland

Post by Ted » Mon Mar 18, 2019 3:39 am

Ron Collins, Stephen Lane, and Ted Schmidt Review the 2038 Frick League Heartland FA signings. This was recorded prior to Spring Training and does not include any signings after that time. I decided to break these into division based segments this year as all six divisions would be nearly four hours of content. Some are longer than others, but division based segments seemed more natural than time based ones.

By the way, Ron, I noticed now how you bowed out of reviewing your own signings, but made Stephen and I talk about ours. Sneaky.

Enjoyed listening to this today fellas, as always!

Glad to hear I didn't get down graded for not having any money to spend and glad to hear that Hatcher signing was well received.

Nemoto is an interesting guy for me as well, since as you said, he has never pitched in the majors. He probably will be more of a full time AAAA player, but well see what happens if my bullpen gets into a bind.

I listened to the Madison part again.... What am I supposed to bring up over and over and over again this year guys?? come on! Give me some bulletin board material!!!

I think you guys summarized Madison pretty well. Gomez isn't ideal but I need pitching and, well, why not. I don't look at year 2 as too much of a risk. I think Madison has about a 2-3 year window before I have to start making some more tough decisions. I don't think we have the roster to make a significant post-season run, but if we can at least make it and build up some financial flexibility it may make the down-fall easier to manage when Mick, Raider, etc... age and start coming off the books. The off-seasons of 2039-2040 and 2040-2041 will be interesting ones as plenty of Opt-Outs, Player Options, and Team Options are in line.

As for Subadio, it's a risk clearly. But so far these types of guys are working well in Madison for the most part so we'll take another chance and see. AS you guys said, the salary isn't one that is going to make or break things. I looked at the fact he has a lower walk count and a higher HR count. The walks shouldn't change. The HR number should decline some in Madison which could make him slightly more effective. He's basically allowing 2.5 runs per every HR allowed. I'm hoping if the HR total declines in Madison, so will his ERA, which will make him a better pitcher. We'll see.
