2038 Johnson League FA Review Podcast Part 2, The Southeast

Post by Ted » Sun Mar 17, 2019 11:58 pm

Randy Weigand, Stephen Lane, and Ted Schmidt Review the 2038 Johnson League Southeast FA signings. This was recorded prior to Spring Training and does not include any signings after that time. I decided to break these into division based segments this year as all six divisions would be nearly four hours of content. Some are longer than others, but division based segments seemed more natural than time based ones.

In regards to the discussion around OSA scouting stuff at the end. I think Ron suggested that maybe Armstrong being incorrect has to do with him being called a reliever. That's possible. I'm sure there's some pattern. Still, I find it hard to believe setting a guy with three 10 rated pitches that are developed to "RP" would make his stuff a 7. We may be wrong in some parts there, but something is still goofy.

Also, I realized during editing we did a poor job of actually giving the contract info. So it is listed below. Sorry for the format. It's copied and pasted from my notes.

Huntsville 0:24
Jacksonville 6:53
Louisville 7:13
Nashville 8:56
New Orleans 11:01
Jim Armstrong/Prospect Rankings/OSA Madness 14:54

Huntsville Phantoms 82.1, 130 00:24
CF Paul Warren -1.8, 1.8

none

Louisville Sluggers 69.5, 112 7:13
RP Fabiano Perolas – 1.5 –

Nashville the Plans 104.4, 110 8:56

New Orleans Crawdads 94.3, 130 11:01
3B Mark Dempsey – 12.67
C Joaqin Camacho – 3.92,2.52 –

That's about how much interest I have in listening to the Nashville section of the podcast. Its been a pretty boring off season for the Goats.

So, all of the players had my notes after their contracts. I just cut all that out when I pasted the list in these posts. Stephens was maybe only guy who wasn't "NAME - #, #, #, -" and I started to fix it so he'd look like everyone else and I still didn't care.

Nice! He wasnt my first choice for back-up (and maybe not my second either - cant remember now) but the other one(s) were just as boring.

A cheat sheet for RP valuations...

A 4.35 FIP in 67.1 IP last season with 0 ratings changes this offseason = completely cooked
A 3.18 FIP in 44.2 IP last season with 0 ratings changes this offseason = going to fall off a cliff any day now

Other than disagreeing with you all on everything ( ;) ), it was a good listen - thanks, guys.

Lol. Sometimes we're not the most consistent. I'll admit I get lazy with RP evaluation.
