[*editors note - As usual I was late posting. This was recorded before the Geoghegan round, but not posted until after it, because 3+ hours of work to edit and post a < 1.5 hour podcast is obnoxious and I hate doing it.]
Randy Weigand and Ted Schmidt bring you the Brewster's first truly worldwide podcast. We lament Randy's alcohol shortage. I flex my beer snob muscles a bit, and then we undertake a rambling review of the season. Discussion starts with Edmonton's resurgence and Seattle's pitching woes. Ted's penchant for playing legacy players comes up before we wander through the rest of the Frick Frontier. Our meandering continues with the Frick Pacific, where it was a two team race all year. More pitching woes in Hawaii (injuries) and Valencia (bad players and lumping) prompt a discussion of broken OAS pitcher scouting. We then finish up the Frick with the Heartland, where we talk about Omaha's pitching futures and Lucas McNeil's mystery year. Discussion of the Johnson League starts with a contract discussion about Rockville and continues into what could be an exciting free agency for pitching. At this point we start to look at how well (or not) Ted did in the media guide projections. Ted is still tickled about Alan's budget and cap shenanigans. The Southeast is next, where the news is Kyle's frustrations and Nashville's weird season. We wonder what happened to Kevin Morales. On to the Sun Belt, which was decided basically by randomness and luck. Ted is totally wrong about a player. Domnic Wyatt struck out a lot, and the Outlaws free agents are reviewed. We have some fun with the worst (best?) game of the year.
Finally, some playoff predictions that are already wrong.
Did you talk about how insanely good the FLP was by BaseRuns?
There was very little research, so no. We didn't. We probably didn't say anything too useful. This is just too broad of a topic to get very in depth in one podcast.

A snowball at Santa Clause comment... yikes. #lazypodcasting
As depressing as it is that I have the same average number of wins over the past 3 years with 0 playoff appearances as two teams with 2 playoff appearances over the same stretch, I can't be too sad about this particular season. We traded away a ton of talent in Velasquez, Peithner, Guzman, Sanchez, etc. over the year - rampant sellers deserve to fall short in the end. The good news is that I have a top 5 farm system (Ron's rankings ftw) after all of those trades and the means to easily reach nearly 50M in cap space for this summer. So... maybe I can gear up to win 87 games and miss the playoffs next year.

Dude, most of the podcasting is lazy podcasting. Well, maybe not. But this was a no prep one, so you get what you get.

Entertaining as always... Especially fun to hear you guys rip on Ripley and his K's while conveniently forgetting that the dude was 2 SBs away from a 40-40 season...

Whoops. Sorry. We sucked at the research on this one. Just was bored on a Sunday morning and it turned out Randy was free.

No don't be sorry lol! Actually Ripley had a far worse year than I would have expected. I thought that he would challenge for the ROY!

Nice overview. I'm expecting McNeil to bounce back, though probably not too silk levels. And yeah, Chavez can still sit in the #4 or #5 hole. The question is whether I want to pay $12m for a back of the rotation guy.

I haven't listened to this yet. Plan on doing so tomorrow. About our cap/budget shenanigans. I'm a little surprised it hasn't been made a big deal of. I've been strategically over budget for 3-4 seasons now. The last player I was able to sign was Nightmare in 2034. If I was certain that Martinez wouldn't opt out and was able to get a win now haul for Flores I would have even pushed in 2038 as well.
It started as simply trying to destroy my team so I could do a big rebuild. But the things I've learned out of neccesity are invaulable. I can still sign draft picks, international players and resigning Fernando Cruz with a negative $20 million next year's budget may have quietly been my shinning moment as a gm. I doubt anyone even knows how to do that.

Appreciate the comments boys. I'm really conflicted on what the right course for me is right now but it's been a fun first season for me so I'll just have to see what happens.

This was fun to listen to. Cool to see everyone jumping on the Edmonton bandwagon now that we’re so damn cool lol jk. Matt is the only one who always believed. I need to hunt down that preview that said we would have 70-something wins. Take that world! Clearly I’m very gracious in the success of the team I inherited

I don’t know if it was my IPhone but the audio really sucked for me. I struggled to understand vast sections of it and it didn’t help you both talking over each other. I think for Louisville you just talked about Morales & Jaramillo but to be honest by then the audio had got so bad I was only catching one word in four.
Good to have something to listen to though and hopefully someone will do a set of podcasts covering a division per podcast thus allowing a bit more in depth coverage

Thanks for the feedack on the audio. I'm much of the problem. Partly, it's because I'm a mumbler. I need to stop doing that. The other problem is that my voice is in the range that a lot of background noise is, so when I cancel out fans and low electric hums (and my ridiculously loud gas furnace that my apartment is too small to get away from), it takes some of the depth out of my voice. This sin't a huge problem, except that when I then amplify my voice to bring the mumbling up to a reasonable volume, it distorts the heck out of it. I think my mic is also crapping out, so I will try some different things.
As far as the talking over each other, I don't really know how to avoid it. We don't really have the visual cues needed to tell when the other person wants to go. But we can still probably do a bit better. I haven't been happy with the audio quality recently either. I'll try to do better.

I don’t think the talking over each other would normally be a major problem but when you’re straining to make sense of what’s being said it’s just the final straw lol. I’m looking forward to the next one though, practice makes perfect

part of the audio (as well as the talking over each other) problem is that I was relying on shitty hotel wifi so there was probably a bit of a lag that we struggled to compensate for.
P.S stever I like cris collinsworth, so thanks for the compliment.
