2036-37 Offseason Trade Review Podcast

Post by Ted » Tue Jan 15, 2019 7:47 pm

An attempt to provide a modicum of insight regarding the exchanges of baseballers who shifted loyalties during the period comprising the intermission between competitive efforts.

Pondered and produced previously, my penchant for procrastination, positively problematic, paused the publishing of this podcast.

Transactions tabled transpired twixt the times 11/20/2018 to 12/11/2018.

Also my audio sucks. Sorry. Kyle sounds fine.

Nice work...

Regarding WAR and Rutledge/Moreno: WAR in OOTP hasn't changed its calculation as far as I know. But realize the "R" in WAR is replacement, and replacement level can change. Note that when Rutledge dropped to 1.6 WAR, his OPS+/wRC+ dropped from the 140-150/135-150 range to 123/121. While Moreno was doing his 7-10 WAR, his "+" stats were off the charts.

Not saying it's right or wrong, but it's something.

WIshart/Grieves was exactly what you made of it, an inconsequential change of scenery move that filled minor needs for each team.
I also was fond of the fact Wishart still had an option year left.

A couple more quick thoughts on the run:

- The beauty of acquiring Estabahn Velazquez was that his contract was expiring. WHich means you get not only 1 season of a superstar for almost no risk, you also get an almost guaranteed 1st round comp pick next year.

- Eye is not falling because of any OOTP version change. If OOTP is trying to model modern day thought, they would do that with league totals...and even if they were doing it with ratings, they'd hit AVK rather than EYE. EYE is changing as a natural process inside the game. It happens on occasion. I believe it's mostly due to the game's engine trying to keep various averages in place, but I don't really know.

I pointed that out to the other team during negotiations. From my side, the prospect had to be tangibly better than a S1 pick (and we had just had so a great draft so the value of S1 picks was sky high). And from their side, they were not just getting the year of Velasquez, but also a S1 pick to replace a good chunk of what Moelling meant to their system.

Same for Ortega, given that it doesn't look like an extension was signed...

I've been cringing on the Off-Season podcasts the last few seasons. Why? Because I haven't done anything... lol.

A couple of minor trades and a few role player free agents. That's pretty much it

Then I see San Fernando and I feel inadequate as a GM. :bag:

That's odd. The trade post says one was. I never did check in game to see if it happened. Well, it wouldn't be me if I wasn't overly critical about something and also completely wrong about it.

Hey, nothing wrong with being wrong every now and again. I do it once every couple years just to try it out for size. :)

And, regarding the number of 5-WAR+ players, I think our totals are pretty much in line with MLB numbers.
