Sim #17 (recap here) was a continuation of a terrible, demoralizing month of July. The Spuds went 2-5 including 0-2 vs division foe Mexico City. The team is either slumping or is who the OOTP preseason predictions said they were, but that's another discussion.

Sim #17 saw some quality relief appearances including Tom Bennett going 5 innings in 3 appearances allowing no runs while striking out 4 and Paul 'The Hammer' Cherry making 3 appearances of his own tossing 5 innings allowing just 1 run while fanning 6. But we'll go with 'Groucho' who was a tiny glint of light in an otherwise abysmal Sim for the Boise rotation. Winston took the mound on the 26th in Rockville and allowed only 1 run in 6.2 IP giving up 2 hits and striking out 5.

The choice on the offensive side was cut and dried. C Sergei Bobrovsky faired well delivering a double and a 2-run HR, but Karetu was in the zone in Sim #17. Slashing .391/.375/.783, the third baseman compiled 3 doubles and 2 HRs scoring 4 times and driving in 7 runs.
