Boise Spuds 51 43 .543 -3 DIV -1 WC L10: 3-7 Strk: L4

Boise came out of the All-Star break and immediately put their backs against the wall with little room for error. Having lead the Frontier Division two Sims ago, the Spuds are now 3 games out of 1st place and 1 game back of the final wild card after getting swept in a 4-game series at Jacksonville. Now they face 2 4-game series against two of the best teams in the Atlantic, Montreal and New Orleans. Both series are at home, but that's little comfort against teams of that caliber and taking into consideration how truly woeful Boise's offense was against the Hurricanes.

@ Jacksonville 5-8 L
@ Jacksonville 0-1 L
@ Jacksonville 2-3 L
@ Jacksonville 1-8 L

While just taking 1 or 2 of a 4-game road series would have been damaging, getting swept is not something one can afford to do with the parity at the top of the Frontier Division. With Doug Eckhoff (apparently) recovering from pitching in the All-Star game, emergency SP Waseem bin Suhayb took the bump and got railed giving up 5 runs in 2.2 innings. Reliever Brad Peckford followed and fared no better surrendering 3 runs in 2.0 innings. Jacksonville SP Si-dao Yong held the Spuds scoreless until the 5th inning and cleared 8 frames giving up 4 runs while fanning 6. Starting pitching was spectacular for both teams in the 2nd contest with Boise SP Marvin 'Groucho' Winston going the distance allowing only a lone run in the 1st, but getting bested by Jacksonville SP Bob Anderson who shutout the Spuds over 7.1 innings. Hurricanes P Clarence Moore completed the shutout with his first save of the year. Boise's offense didn't fare much better in the 3rd contest as Jacksonville SP John Jensen scattered 2 runs over 5.1 innings and RP Bob Coutts shoutout the Spuds for 2 frames. Lefty SP Matt McCartney allowed only 2 runs in 5.2 innings but it was enough as the Spuds yet again sputtered at the plate. The offense continued the skid in the finale managing only 1 run in 6.1 innings off Jacksonville SP Gavrilovich Mastinsky. Hurricanes RP Melvin Bork earned his first save of the season shutting out Boise over 2.2 innings allowing only 1 hit. A decent start by newly acquired Spud SP Danny 'Padfoot' Leach was marred by Peckford making his 2nd appearances of the series and allowing 5 unearned runs in the 8th inning on 4 walks.
