Boise Spuds 48 36 .571 - DIV +2 WC L10: 8-2 Strk: W2

Boise was beginning to fade a bit posting a 12-17 month of May. But they righted the ship in June going 19-9 sweeping two 4-game sets and splitting the rest. Sim #13 was the bow on the month with a 5-2 record. The Spuds wrapped up a sweep of Atlantic City, split 4 in Brooklyn, and took the first 2 of a home series vs Charlotte. The Sim didn't come without its warts, however, as the squad allowed 4 runs/game, but a retooled offense answered the bell posting 7 runs in 3 of the contests.

@ Atlantic City 4-1 W
Having taken the first 3 games of this 4-game set, this was a chance the Spuds to sweep the Gamblers. And so appeared the pitcher who has emerged as the undisputed ace of the Boise staff Doug Eckhoff. Eckhoff shutout the Gamblers over 6 innings allowing 4 hits and collecting 4 Ks. When setup man Samir Qasim ran into some difficulty in the 9th, young Mario Santos stepped in to collect his 2nd save in as many days. The offense powered a 3-run outburst in the 3rd inning off Atlantic City SP António Santiago that consisted of 3 singles, a wild pitch that scored a run, and a sacrifice fly.

@ Brooklyn 3-6 L

Next, the Spuds traveled up the coast to Brooklyn to face the Robins. The opener saw an explosion of runs in the middle innings with Brooklyn posting 3 in the 3rd off Boise SP Matt McCartney while the spuds chipped away at Robins SP Hoaka Etana. The game entered the 9th with Boise holding a 5-4 lead on they would add a couple of insurance runs. In the 2nd affair, Boise SP Waseem bin Suhayb got rocked for 5 runs in just 2.2 innings. It wouldn't have mattered how many runs were allowed, though, as Brooklyn SP Ken 'The Plainsman' Arroyo shut down the Spuds offense giving up only 3 hits and no runs in 6 innings and RP Alexander Germashev ushered the shutout to the end. The Boise offense reemerged in the 3rd game of the series with 3B Mahine 'Dragnet' Karetu going 4-for-5 with a HR and 2 RBI and C Sergei Bobrovsky adding 2 RBI on a 5th inning double. Spuds SP Mario Reyes had a bad outing, but the offense was just enough and CL Santos circled back around for yet another save. In the finale, Boise jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before the Robins posted 4 runs in the 4th and another in the 5th off Spuds SP Jeremy Nickerson.

v Charlotte 7-4 W
v Charlotte 5-3 W

In the last week of May, Charlotte swept Boise in 4 games in the Queen City. This time Charlotte made the long trip to Idaho and the Spuds jumped all over Flyers SP Andrés Gonzáles for 6 runs in 5 innings. Boise SP Eckhoff had a bumpy 7th inning but RP Donald Baker and Santos allowed just one tally in the final 3 innings. Spuds 3B 'Dragnet' Karetu continued his hot streak going 2-for-4 with 5 RBI off 2 HRs. In the 2nd game Spuds SP Matt McCartney allowed just 2 runs in 5 innings as he pitched around 6 hits and 3 walks. Boise RF Jiong 'L-Jo' Liu drove in 3 runs and LF Roosevelt Davis added a triple to propel Boise to the 2nd-straight victory. And, again, Mario Santos rung the bell on the save.
