Sim #12 (recap here) was a very productive one for the Spuds. They went 5-1 taking the back 3 of a 4-game series vs Rockville, going 2-1, and the first three of another 4-game set, this one in Atlantic City. There were 3 really close games with the Spuds handling them all. That included a 2-0 shutout of Rockville on the 19th.

SPUDS OF THE SIM - SIM #12

Pitcher

CL Mario Santos
3 G, 3 SV, 0.00 ERA, 3.0 IP, 2 K, 0.67 WHIP, +0.1 WAR
Sim #12 saw plenty of good starts from the staff and two great ones. Doug Eckhoff shutout Rockville on the afore-mentioned 19th going 6 innings allowing just 3 hits while striking out 3 and walking one. Newly signed free agent Matt McCartney got a start on the 18th and, though the Spuds would go on to lose the game, he went 7 innings allowing just 1 run on 6 hits. Former closer Samir Qasim had only 2 appearances and tossed 2.1 innings, but he struck out 5 while keeping a clean sheet. But for this edition we have to go with newly promoted closer CL Mario Santos. The 22yo converted 14 of 15 saves at AAA Salt Lake City on the season and earned the promotion to the bigs. Not only that, the club placed him in the closer role for strategic purposes. He took quick advantage of the move in Sim #12 converting all 3 of his save opps including closing out a victory over Atlantic City on the 23rd with only 8 pitches in the 9th.

Batter

DH Alfonso Rúbio
75 G, 13 2B, 1 3B, 16 HR, 44 RBI, .238/.292/.450, -0.1 WAR
First baseman Roosevelt Davis, acquired from Las Vegas 2 weeks ago, has been a productive addition to the Boise lineup especially in Sim #12 where he collected 6 RBI with a double, triple, and a HR. But Rúbio gets the nod bagging 3 doubles, 1 triple, 2 HR, and delivering 4 RBI while slashing .292/.346/.750.
