Sim #9 (recap here) saw the Spuds deliver a sweet 5 wins. There were only a couple of bad outings on the mound and the offense was clicking.
SPUDS OF THE SIM - SIM #9
Pitcher
P Ed Noble
18 G, 1-0, 1 SV, 32.1 IP, 2.78 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, +0.3 WAR
SP Tomás Viera was great in his 2nd start of the Sim besting Charm City 3-2, but we'll focus on the bullpen here. P Paul 'The Hammer' Cherry had 4 appearances tossing 3.1 innings of shutout ball while striking out 5 hitters. Anthony Annear got in 2.1 innings of work turning in a clean plate with only 1 hit allowed. But we'll go with Noble. He had as many outings as Cherry (4) but delivered 6 innings of work allowing 3 runs but fanning 8.
Batter
CF Lou Bayou
54 G, 14 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR, 31 RBI, .359/.393/.487, 23 SB, +2.2 WAR
Backup outfielder Jiong 'L-Jo' Liu had solid output for a guy not expected to see many at bats delivering 3 RBI on 3 2B and a HR. But the story, even inside the manager's office, was Bayou. Manager Mario Contreras reportedly told Bayou before the current road trip that he had a complete green light on the basepaths and Bayou rewarded the decision by swiping 5 bases in 6 games and vaulted himself into the lead for most stolen bases in the JL at 23. He also posted a double and HR and produced 3 RBI while slashing .304/.360/.478 for the Sim.
