Woof! There is just no way we can make a 1-6 Sim palatable. We supposed we can point out that only one of the 7 games were really blowouts so it was just bad luck against 2 very good teams, but we'd get emails. On the bright side (again with the emails) Boise only dropped 2 games in the division but sits 2 games out of the last wild card spot. Pitching just could not avoid the big innings and that really made the difference. You cannot give up a 3-run frame to Charlotte or Charm City because you're not likely to get it back.

@ Charlotte 5-8(10) L
@ Charlotte 5-8 L
@ Charlotte 0-3 L

After losing the opening game of this 4-game series in Charlotte the Spuds were on shaky footing. In the 2nd game, they forced another extra inning affair coming out on the losing end of a walkoff. Boise SP Jeremy Nickerson was serviceable allowing a pair of runs in 5.1 innings, but Toshikuni Kubo could not hold up plus-2 innings in the middle of the game giving up 3 runs earning a blown save. Spuds CL Samir Qasim took his first loss of the year but it was really on the shoulders of reliever Ed Noble who surrendered the 3-run, walkoff HR. The backed of Charlotte's pen, on the other hand, was able to hold Boise scoreless. After a shaky inning in his return to the majors, Boise SP Tomás Viera allowed just 2 runs in 5 innings while fanning 6 in the 3rd game of the series. Reliever Knox Sked got spooked by an error from 2B Marcello Custello early in the 8th and took the L and the blown save. Boise CF Lou Bayou swiped his 22nd base of the season and went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI. In the final game of the series, the Spuds needed to get out of Charlotte with at least one win. But Charlotte SP Buwono Mainaky was having none of that blanking Boise in 7.1 innings of stellar work and only allowing 4 hits. Boise's Kubo redeemed himself a bit holding the Flyers to 1 run in 2 innings of work.

@ Charm City 4-9 L
@ Charm City 3-7 L
@ Charm City 1-7 L
@ Charm City 3-2 W

The Jimmies just kept the Boise lineup off balance for the whole of the first 3 games of this 4-game set and Spuds couldn't manage the same against the powerful Charm City attack. Boise SP Mario Reyes allowed 5 runs in 4.1 innings in the first contest while reliever Waseem bin Suhayb followed him by giving up 3 in 2 innings. The Spuds Alfonso Rúbio did manage to deliver a 2-run HR, but that was about it for his side. The 2nd game was all on Boise SP Marvin 'Groucho' Winston who got tagged for 4 runs in the first inning and allowed 3 more before he was finally yanked in the 4th. The bullpen held the Jimmies scoreless, but the damage was done. The Boise lineup was yet again stymied, this time by Jimmies SP Héctor Silva who spun 7 innings of 1-run ball striking out 8 Spuds. For Boise, Kubo turned right back around and gave up 3 runs on 4 hits in 1.1 innings. Finally, the Spuds had seen enough on this road trip and jumped out front on a 2-run HR from 3B Mahine 'Dragnet' Karetu in the first inning. Charm City SP Allen Davidson recovered well but Boise's Viera had another very, or is that Vieray, good (BOO!) outing allowing just 1 run in 5 innings of work and the bullpen was clockwork with Qasim booking his 5th save. Then the Spuds very eagerly jumped on the bus to head back to Idaho...with their tail between their legs.
