Boise Spuds 18 13 .581 DIV - WC +1 L10: 4-6 Strk: L2

It happened, as it was bound to. The Spuds suffered their first losing Sim of the season going 2-4. The silver lining? So did Las Vegas so the Spuds remain tied atop the Frontier Division 1 game ahead of the Rocky Mountain Oysters. Of course Boise had the chance to add some distance on the Oysters but couldn't manage a series win. Another silver lining is seeing the pitching staff having a much better performance this week allowing only 3.0 runs/game. That means the offense sputtered a bit. Hopefully that doesn't indicate a trend.

@ San Antonio 1-3 L
@ San Antonio 5-0 W

Having dropped the opener of a series in San Antonio last week, the Spuds had little room for error in losing the series. The middle game pressed the room more with a 2-run loss. But the game was a beauty of a pitchers' duel. Boise starter Marvin 'Groucho' Winston allowed only 2 runs in 5.2 innings of work and rookie reliever Samir Qasim held the Outlaws to just 1 more in 2.1 innings. But San Antonio's Sakutaro Kawano left Boise bats befuddled allowing just 1 run in 6.1 innings. The finale was a game the Spuds couldn't afford to lose and the team seemed to fully understand. Boise DH Alfonso Rúbio led the charge to a tally of 5 runs against San Antonio SP Leland 'Griz' Rogers with 2 doubles and a home run. Rogers did strike out 11 in his 6.2 innings of work.

v Rocky Mountain 1-2(11) L
v Rocky Mountain 7-3 W
v Rocky Mountain 2-4 L

The Spuds next welcomed Rocky Mountain to Idaho looking to extend their division lead over the Oysters. The opener was a classic. Rocky Mountain touched up starter Doug Eckhoff for a run in the first inning, but that would be all they would tally as Eckhoff went 9 innings fanning 9 Oysters. But Rocky Mountain starter Ken Steele also held the Spuds to a single run over 7 innings and the game proceeded to extras. Boise closer Anthony Annear allowed a home run to the first batter in the 11th inning and the Oysters made it stick in the bottom of the frame. The Spuds offense came back to life in the 2nd game with 3B Mahine 'Dragnet' Karetu and catcher Juan González led the charge to 7 runs with 2 RBI apiece. Lefty rookie Mario Reyes held Rocky Mountain to just 1 run in 5 innings of work. The rubber match was Boise's chance to win the series but it just didn't fall their way. Starter Waseem bin Suhayb gave up 4 runs in 5 innings and the Oyster's Norm 'Squirt' Collyer shut down Boise bats allowing no runs in 5.2 innings.

@ Phoenix 1-6 L
Boise next traveled to Arizona for a 3-game set with the Talons. In the opener, Spuds starter Marvin 'Groucho' Winston surrendered 5 runs on 7 hits in 5.1 innings. That would be more than enough as Phoenix' Alaric Wullenweber held the Spuds to only 1 run in 5.2 innings. Boise will look to salvage the series in Sim #6.
