MONTH IN REVIEW: Boise is seemingly playing their best stretch of ball since the All-Star break, as a 16-12 record in August is their best win total since May and gives the Spuds a 31-22 record, a 95-win pace. As the team stands now, they are on pace for 86 wins, but more importantly, they are tied with four other Johnson League teams with 71 wins and currently in the middle of the wild card standings.The Spuds play in August was similar to July, seeing slightly improved pitching -- including a no-hitter by Julio Alicea -- and quietly a strong offensive showing from top to bottom. With the trade deadline passed, Boise made two minor moves, trading away Triple-A second baseman Tomás Borges to Long Beach for minor league reliever Eric Crowley and acquiring RP Lorenzo Montalvo from Jacksonville for minor league centerfielder Pedro Santos. Montalvo will be expected to pitch the rest of the season as a low-leverage reliever, liking putting an end to Celio Marin's trips from the Boise bullpen to DFA status, with releasing the 34-year-old veteran a strong possibility.
Boise's schedule is quite favorable for the rest of the year, as they are the only team with a sub-.500 strength of schedule in the Frontier Division. The Spuds will host sixteen games for the remainder of the season, with just thirteen on the road.
