Tater Talk: 2040.08 – Spuds Off-Season Plan: Fast and Furious?

Post by jleddy » Sat Sep 14, 2019 2:54 pm

Image According to sources, it appears the Boise Spuds front office plan for filling out the roster this off-season is to work quickly and aggressively, much more so than last year when the Spuds swooped in late to sign Alfredo Salazar and Egbert Behner.

"While I can't discuss our specific plans or players, we've already made several offers to free agents," general manager Joe Lederer told Brewster Baseball Network. "I want us to set the market, not react to it."

When asked about rumors of the Spuds being currently involved in trade talks with several teams, Lederer declined to provide details. "Again, our goal is to assemble the core of our roster prior to the Winter Meetings, so aside from free agency, yes, we're looking at the trade market and current have on-going talks with several teams. We'll look to add to add to our depth as the off-season goes on but I expect us to be one of the more aggressive teams this winter."

BBN insider Carlos Inez is reporting that Boise has been in contact with Portland and Charlotte about a "draft-and-trade" deal on the eve of the League's expansion draft. According to Inez, one of the two expansion teams may have already come to terms on a deal, meaning a specific unprotected player will be selected in the draft, then traded to Boise for an pre-agreed-to return.

I think free agency is going to start with a frenzy. A lot of the mid tier guys have very reasonable demands. So it's either jump on the decent player now, or wait out the really good one and chance being left with nothing.

I think it might be in one of Ron's spreadsheets. Or in a DMB song played in reverse.

I saw a dmb cover band last Saturday. Was the loudest guy cheering when they played Juan Sweetworld.
