Prior to arbitration hearings taking play on November 11th, the Boise Spuds had eighteen cases to resolve. The team immediately withdrew offers to
Tomás Chávez,
Douglas van Osch,
Jeff Whitney, and
Eliseu Satino, allowing all four players to become free agents. "We appreciate what all these guys brought to the field, day in and day out," general manager Joe Lederer told Treasure Valley Sports. "It's just business, nothing personal. With a salary cap, every dollar matters and we feel like we have replacements for each one of these guys ready to go and who will be making less than what we were willing to offer them in arbitration." The loss of Satino surprised many, as the mid-season trade acquisition played well in a part-time role for Boise, slashing .286/.327/.462 as a member of the Spuds.
Additionally and most importantly, the front office and recently-named Frick League Award winner
Dennis French were able to settle without going to hearings in which French will make $7M in 2040.
Of the remaining thirteen cases, Boise was able to win all but one, with the panel ruling in favor of
Bill Pidduck and his demand of $1.125M.
