Tater Talk: 2039.32 – Week in Review, 6/10-6/16

Post by jleddy » Mon Jul 22, 2019 1:53 pm

Image WEEK IN REVIEW (2-4): Boise continued its shaky play with a fourth straight week without a winning record, causing the team to fall below .500 for the first time all season. The week's four loses were bookended with impressive wins against Mexico City (8-2 win on June 10th) and Des Moines (2-0 win on June 16th), but the rest of the schedule saw the Spuds outscored 33-18. Despite the poor results, Boise remained in second place in the Frontier Division, however the overall standings in the Frick League feature four members of the Frontier, the Spuds included, in the bottom five.

ORE-IDA® TATER-TOTS EMOJI SUMMARY OF THE WEEK: 🚨🆘🚨

HITTER OF THE WEEK: Dennis French - 9-for-24, 2 HR, 7 RBI (.375 AVG, 1.116 OPS)

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Dave Walsh - 1 IP, 0 ER, 2 K...yes, that's the highlight performance of the week

GAME OF THE WEEK: The Spuds finished a rough week with a vintage standout performance from Egbert Behner, who threw a complete-game shutout on June 16th, a 2-0 win over Des Moines. Behner allowed only four hits, walking one and striking out five Kernels hitters to secure a much-needed victory. Boise got its two runs via solo shots by Yunosuke Terada and Pedro Nava.

Vancouver Mounties2544.36211-98

NEWS AND NOTES: The reshuffled lineup continues to do well, however the bottom-half of the Spuds lineup has scuffled of late...the biggest news out of Boise was their failure to sign 2039 second-round draft pick Martin Román, who will continue his playing in college...Boise had offered the prep pitcher a signing bonus of $4.7M but it was not enough...the Spuds will receive a second-round pick in the 2040 draft as compensation for the loss of Román...after being removed from the closer's role, Tom Warren continued to struggle, allowing four runs in two relief appearances, including a blown save in a 9-4 loss to Des Moines on June 14th...Warren was optioned to Salt Lake City (AAA) and swingman Jeff Whitney was recalled to take Warren's place in the bullpen...Whitney last pitched in the BBA in 2036 for San Bernadino

DOWN ON THE FARM: Due to minor league All-Star games, schedules were light for the week, so we're updating each team's performance and their respective first-half most outstanding hitters and pitchers:

Salt Lake City (AAA), 24-41Jim Des Jardien - .325/.386/.620, 154 OPS+Rien van der Heyden - 6-4, 4.21 ERA, 1.25 WHIP

I assume the Hitter of the Week is just boilerplate at this point.

Man, Roman walked away from $4.7 million? He must really want to go to college. Maybe he met someone on his campus visit.

Martin Roman was my top pitcher who I almost drafted with my supplemental first rounder. It's too bad he didn't sign for you. I liked him a lot.

I saw him for the price of admission to del Mar racetrack a few years ago (around $5 if I remember right) and it was awesome. The man goes all out
