Let's be honest, Boise has some really bad players on its 40-man. Let's gander at some guys that won't be in Boise (most likely) next season:
- Valeri Kharlamov, 2B, Boise paid him $9.9M this season to put up a .5 ish WAR...I mean he's a "leader," he works hard, and draws in fans. He's a borderline HOF'er with his 70 Career War and 2,650 hits, etc. I guess it's possible that he returns, but I would expect that he would retire.
- Caleb Benavides - RP, Benavides is 32 now and has done a decent job for Boise out of the pen. He was even the Closer for 2 of his 4 seasons in Boise, racking up 57 saves. While his efforts have been appreciated, Caleb just doesn't fit the profile for what Boise is trying to accomplish in the bullpen.
-Ignacio Marrero - While it was nice to get reacquainted with Iggy again, he was more of a distraction than he was a useful member of the team. He complained most of the year about being a backup...truth is, while he is good defensively, he is a pitiful hitter. Our other catcher is already pretty good defensively and has a far superior bat. Iggy needs to look in the mirror next time he thinks about bitching about playing time.
- Patrick Patchett, SP, Boise paid cash for Patchett because we couldn't stand running these horrible SP's out there every 5 days. He did a decent job. Boise attempted to extend him and he refused. So, hopefully he enjoys the free agent marketplace.
For the most part, one could say, "nothing to see here." True, but you know what you saw here? Another TN!
