2038.15 Boise: Season Ending Tots
Season ending Tator Tots with a bit of spice:
- Dennis French returned for the last 2 weeks of the season and after taking the first week to knock the rust off, he brought the destruction to Calgary and Edmonton putting up these numbers: 11-24 3 HR's 14 RBI's 4 doubles 0 walks 0 K's 1 SB. With that effort he easily won the Frick(in) batting title with a .369 average. He also ended the season with an OPS north of 1.000. He put together a WAR of 6.36 in 123 games (due to injury) and may have challenged for the Gold Glove had he played 25 more games. All in all, a remarkable season for the 21 year old.
- Yunosuke Terada let the league know that his onslaught against pitchers his rookie year was no fluke. He put up these ridiculous numbers: .277/.375/.949 with 48 HR's 121 RBI's 87 Walks. He also played really good defense at 1B. At 25, he and Frenchy could be a dream team for the next several years.
- What about Dave Walsh people? Boise's bullpen starts off terrible to start the season, so they reach out to Dave Walsh who has been used as a SP most of his minor league career. In 60 games he put together a 2.67 ERA 12-4 record 17 Saves 3.09 FIP 2.76 WAR in 108 innings. ROY candidate? Why not?
- Joaquin Torres - I mean, why even mention a guy who hit .190 on the season with .548 OPS that included 10 HR's? What kind of manager gives that guy 496 AB's? Well, yeah, there's that and his .11 WAR...But look at his remarkable defense at SS! 19.23 ZR at SS! Hello! Sure, he may never start another game for Boise (or he might start 153 more games next season) but he was a defensive wizard at SS for Boise this past season.
That's enough Tots for one day. I gotta watch my carbs!

I loved having Torres around as my utility glove/late inning defensive replacement. But, yeah, the bat is tough to swallow every day.
Boise is an interesting team to watch. On the edge right now, but pointing in some good directions.

With some luck he's got another two years before the defense erodes. You won't win titles with him playing big roles, but you can keep from losing too many games on the cheap.

In tandem with the Spuds park, he's probably a fairly decent sized part of the reason that the Boise pitching staff (which looks a bit rugged on paper) turned in a league average ERA and led the Frick League in GO%.

And, I know the player card says Dennis French is worth 6+ wins, but he may be one of those guys WAR can't capture. If Boise doesn't lose him for a month and a half, given the scores of some of the games the Spuds lost you have to wonder how high that 74-win finish might have been.

Honestly, as bad as this team seems to be to me, I still think I could have been right around .500 and scared SF/LBC/Calgary in the process...RonCo wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2019 3:15 pmAnd, I know the player card says Dennis French is worth 6+ wins, but he may be one of those guys WAR can't capture. I think the league is still figuring out what a good team/player is after the relative rating change.
