2035.6 Opening Day and week 1

Post by bschr682 » Sun Jun 24, 2018 12:51 pm

Spring training is over and already the team has a bit of adversity to face as the teams best player Felipe Murillo will miss the first few months of the season with a finger injury. The team would like to look at the positive side of this injury as maybe it might convince Murillo to opt in to the rest of his deal but that's certainly the rosy outlook. More than likely it just cost the team a fantastic trade chip and the loss of top quality starting pitching innings which is always a tough pill to swallow. Moving on to what the non injured players have to do though leads us to opening day. Its a bit of a shame that the team opens up on the road (actually the entire first month is mostly road games) but it was an exciting day nonetheless.

Cris Rios would be propped up as the de facto ace now and was tasked with going head to head with Seattle's ace Alfredo Contreras. It would appear that the cold, rainy weather (43 degrees yikes) really messed with Rios while Contreras appears to have built up a tolerance to that sort of thing. Rios would get rocked for 4 runs in the 3rd while Contreras would have a masterful 15 k performance that would spur Seattle on to an incredibly hot start for the season.

Through the first week of the season Boise would manage to go only 1-4 with the lone bright spot being a victorious 13-8 slugfest with a suddenly feisty Valencia team. The teams would combine for 32 hits and 21 runs that day which surely gave the crowd of just over 25,000 a great show.

Overall the offense (especially McQuade and Parra) was pretty good but the pitching staff has yet to settle in. At least nobody got hurt this week and its important to remember its a long season.

Rios should be pretty good, but he's young.

young, cheap, very popular, extreme ground baller with good movement (8 before the version switch). A lot to like. Not a true ace of course but a damn fine #2.

And if there's ducks on the pond, he can apparently shoot them.
