There was an overall sense of chaos in Sim #16 (recap) as the team returned from the All-Star break and found themselves searching for footing after a face lift. All of the Sim's games were close and even the 10-1 loss was closer than it seemed in that it involved one 6-run inning by Jacksonville. Starting pitching was actually pretty good but the Boise bullpen got sliced apart saddling itself with a woeful 12.00 ERA. The offense was a jumble of players learning their roles and getting accustomed to a new clubhouse.

SPUDS OF THE SIM - SIM #16

Pitcher

SP Buddha Kankipati
15 G, 6 GS, 2-1, 2.68 ERA, 47.0 IP, 1.09 WHIP, +0.4 WAR
There was a stark scarcity of solid performances from the Spuds pitching staff in Sim #16. CL Mario Santos successfully converted the one save opportunity presented him. Newly acquired rookie SP Tariku Jabiri made his first 2061 start at the ML level, coming off 16 starts at Sacramento AAA affiliate Black Hills, and made a good showing even though he was saddled with a mostly undeserved loss. But Kankipati keeps it humming and we are really happy to see that. GM Ben Teague has shown a lot of patience to Kankipati over recent seasons and he showed his upside in Charlotte holding the Flyers to 1 run on 1 hit in 5.0 innings while fanning 4.

1B Pedro 'Pocket Rocket' Hozven
90 G, 18 2B, 17 HR, 43 RBI, .254/.330/.496, 1 SB, +0.9 WAR
The top half of the Boise offense had no problems in Sim #16. C Tadanobu Otani continued his breakout season driving in 6 runs in the 7 games. RF Martin Hemming (1 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR), 3B Bill Kuhn (1 2B, 2 HR), and newcomer LF Tsutomu Yamauchi (2 2B, 1 HR) each collected 5 RBI. Hozven did, too, but he powered his with 2 doubles and 3 HRs.
