Tater Talk: 2039.24 – Week in Review, 5/6-5/12

Image WEEK IN REVIEW (2-3): A second-straight losing week has pundits wondering if Boise's decent start has been smoke and mirrors, perhaps taking advantage of a heavy home schedule in the first month. The Spuds' two wins for the week were in the last game of both series, salvaging what could have been a terrible stretch of games. Luckily for the club, Frontier rivals Vancouver and Edmonton didn't set the world afire, so Boise still sits in second place in the division and third in the Frick Wild Card standings.

HITTER OF THE WEEK: Carlos Muñóz - 5-for-17,1 HR, 3 RBI (.294 AVG, .863 OPS)

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Egbert Behner - 7 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 7 K/1 BB, 2.57 ERA

GAME OF THE WEEK: On May 9th, the Spuds eeked out an extra-inning victory against San Fernando to prevent a three-game sweep at the hands of the Bears. Boise fells behind early, giving up two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Marcos Sánchez and Félix Alvarado teamed up out of the bullpen to pitch a combined 6⅔ innings, allowing only one run to keep the Spuds in the contest. After nine innings, the score was tied 5-5 and in the top half of the tenth, António Baca lead off with a solo home run to put the Spuds up. Boise would tack on one more run and eventually hold onto a 7-6 win.

NEWS AND NOTES: Boise plays its next 24 games without a day off, 14 of which will be on the road...the Spuds made two minor league signings, C Allan MacHugh and RP Mario Contreras...MacHugh, an eight-year veteran of the BBA, will provide veteran leadership in Triple A Salt Lake City and Contreras, 31, is expected to help mentor a young Alpines bullpen

DOWN ON THE FARM: With the addition of MacHugh, Salt Lake City (AAA) sent C Ed Cooper to Buffalo (AA) for more regular playing time...in his first start since being demoted from Boise, Joe Clements pitched five no-hit innings on May 8th against Dodge City...Alpine pitchers are having a successful collective season, ranking 2nd in FIP and 1st in WAR...RP Pancho Cerdo signed a two-year extension...Buffalo split six games last week, raising their record to 15-20...Tulsa (Single A) had a big week going 5-1 and outscoring their opponents by 17 runs despite a 12-3 loss to Dearborn on May 12...top prospect Félix Román continued his assault on the league, going 10-for-25 during the week with five home runs and nine runs scored
