“I think our record is a bit misleading”. Said GM Justin Niles as he was approached by reporters who shoved phones recording in his face demanding to hear answers on the team’s rumored plans to be sellers at the upcoming trade deadline, despite being 16 games over .500. The Bombers current record has them in a wild card spot and just 6 games back in the Frontier.
Rosenblatt’s 104 run differential on the year ranks 5th in the league.
The playoff odds predictor currently sits at 86.1%.
So why?
“Yea, we have had a good first half of the year. Dare I say great actually, but we have had some lucky breaks." Niles continued “We have had 2 players hit the IL all season, which is tied for the lowest in the league. Our pitching staff has gotten out of some self-inflicted jams that maybe the statistical probabilities say they shouldn’t have gotten out of. I mean, we’re 12th in the Johnson in walks allowed, and our bullpen ERA is dead last. Offensively, we are pretty good at getting on base, ranking first in the league, but are horrible at running the bases once we get on, ranking second to last in stolen bases. What I am saying is that we have a lot of warts for a team that is going to compete for a playoff spot.” Niles continued.
“I think we are a bit ahead of schedule as far as competing goes, and sometimes it just makes sense to pump the brakes a little bit and step back and make sure that the bigger picture isn’t lost. We have a farm system ranked in the top 1/4th of the league, with 6 of the top 60 prospects, including Hedges who has found his way all the up to 4th in the top prospect rankings. We aren’t rushing him, and with that we just need to have some patience and make sure we don’t mortgage our future trying to cover these warts up.”
“With that in mind, we are indeed listening to offers on the players that were rumored to be available as we continue to build for not only 2063 but future seasons.” Niles concluded as he entered the team facility.
