The Morning Glory 2058.06: Oysters Draft Gómez

With their first pick in the 2058 BBA Draft, the Oysters selected 1B Jorge Gómez from the Netflix Streamers.

Gómez is a 1B who projects to have big time power and be a good hitter overall. After 2 big years at Netflix, he struggled in his junior season, posting a negative WAR with a 104 OPS+ and 98 wRC+.

"He was at the top of our board there," said GM Brandon Slouck.

"We like to go best player on our board and he was there. We do have a lot of 1B and COF's in our system but we couldn't pass up on his potential and we're happy to land him at 25."

There is debate on if they'll even be able to sign the 1B. The teams overall funds are still tight and reports are Gómez is looking for at least $4,000,000. That's the number we hear most but we've also heard higher. The team doesn't have much more than that budgeted. Adding to the debate really is the amount of 1B/DH types the franchise already has. Dylan Malloch and Arturo Gonzáles are two current ML'ers who should be around through at least 2060. Prospect wise, Fareeq bin Su'ud and oshi Tamura down at AA while Felipe López is still at R ball.

Despite the amount of 1B in the system, Gómez could be the best prospect of them all.

"We drafted him in good faith and plan to make a strong offer. We hope he wants to be here as much as we want him here and are excited to get him in the system as soon as we can."

Sources say if signed, he will report to Single A Topeka.
