The Morning Glory 2056.01 - All's Quiet. Why?

Post by GoldenOne » Wed Aug 16, 2023 2:03 pm

In the 22 seasons Rocky Mountain's Brett Golden has been a General Manager in the BBA, this season is by far his quietest during the Free Agency period. Why is this you ask? Well a few reasons.

First, yes, the Oysters GM only has about $3.5M to spend under the cap. You cant make much noise with that chump change in the BBA Free Agency these days.

Second, there really isnt any open spots on the Oysters roster that Golden needs to fill in this offseason. And that includes ensuring a fill in for the injured Antonio Hernandez who isnt expected to be back in the rotation until June. About the only spot Golden needs to fill is DH but unless the Oysters clean out a spot or two in their bullpen, they are already at 27 and can fill the DH spot with their bench guys.

Third, they just drafted 4 guys in the Rule 5 draft. While we dont anticipate all of them sticking - as mentioned already, this team is pretty full - maybe there is room for one or two of them to be tucked away and used on those blowout days or home-and-home double headers with Mexico City.

Lastly, and my favorite, the Oysters saw their Free Agency bonanza come at the end of the 2055 season. In order to open up some space to sign a couple of its other players to long-term deals, the Des Moines Kernels decided to release OF Aaron Haney a little early, making him a Free Agent before the official BBA calendar rolled over. GM Golden swooped in and signed Haney to a 4-year (including the remainder of the 2055 season), $95M contract. While there were some comments about a clerical error and the final 2-years of Haney's contract were meant as Team Options, that's not what the signed contract states. Either way, Haney is on the team and the Oysters remain quiet in (2056) Free Agency.
