While the 2054 Awards Voting Season is underway, and there is still more votes to come in, most commentators are already shaking their head at some of the voting results. Most specifically, the voting for the 2054 Johnson League Sawyer Silk Sliver Slugger Trophy.

Some of the voting is understandable - the voters in Phoenix will always pick a Talon first, that's just how it is. And sure, a homer pick by the voters in Mexico City - I mean, Félix Román isnt a horrible choice, but yeah, its a homer pick.

What is most upsetting to anyone that truly follows the sport, are the two voters that gave Rocky Mountain Oysters 1B Malik bin Mazin 4th Place votes for the Sawyer Silk award.

Let's first remember, there is a Sawyer Silk Award for both the Johnson League and the Frick League. And in the Johnson League, let's run down where bin Mazin finds himself in a few of the offensive categories:
-- Batting Avg: 1st
-- OBP: 1st
-- Slugging: 1st
-- OPS: 1st
-- WAR: 1st
-- Isolated Power: 2nd (behind Roman)
-- wRC: 1st
-- Hits: 1st
-- Doubles: 1st (71 total doubles is good for 2nd on the All Time single season record)
-- HRs: 4th
-- RBI: 2nd (behind Roman)
-- Runs: 1st

Yeah, sure, bin Mazin is only the 4th best Slugger in the JL. Come on people, you're better than that!

I actually had to look if I homer picked on this. I did, and 5 others joined me. Bin Mazin was second on my ballot and very deserving of first. No reason that I can see to have him 4th.

Yeah, I figured there's always a few homer picks so second makes sense. Its the 4th place voters that should be ashamed. :)
