The Morning Glory 2054.03 - Wullenweber Snubbed

Post by GoldenOne » Mon Apr 03, 2023 1:19 pm

On July 14th, SP Alaric Wullenweber pitched a 5-hit shutout for a 11-0 win against the San Antonio Outlaws at Smashburger Field in Colorado Springs, CO. He managed the feat while striking out 6 and only walking 1 in the 114 pitch showing. This was Wullenweber's 10th shutout (and 23rd complete game) in his career.

The Oysters jumped out to an early 4-0 lead at the end of the 1st inning, allowing Wullenweber to just relax and pitch.

The odd thing about the game however, was that Wullenweber was not awarded the Player of the Game mention. That honor went to the 21 year old DH Arturo Gonzáles. Granted, Gonzáles did go 4 for 4 with 2 HRs, 4 RBI, and 2 runs scored in the game but, as most people might argue, a shutout, something that has happened only 10 times in the 441 games Wullenweber has started, seems to be a little more rare.

When asked about the supposed snub, Wullenweber commented, "Arturo had a great day today! I've had plenty of honors in my career, I'm okay with it. What I love seeing is Arturo getting some recognition and pumping some confidence into the rookie. We're going to need him to keep hitting like that to get deep into the playoffs this year!"
