Oh Gosh...Where to go from here???
Three good things, and three areas that need to be addressed; just writing them down to get them straight in my own mind:
GOOD THINGS:
1. With the Hector Cano Jr. era getting underway, the outfield looks pretty solid.
2. The pieces I got in the Phil Cole trade seem to have the potential to stabilize the pen
3. 3. Ed Leialoha can hit. Don’t quite know where the best spot is to play him; he’s best at 1B but playing a 1B with little power in El Paso seems counterintuitive.
THINGS THAT NEED TO BE ADDRESSED:
1. What are the characteristics of a starting pitcher that can excel in my park? It’s easy to say, “Well, you were running waiver claims and a Rule 5 guy out there for most of the year”, but even guys who have a sterling pedigree tend to poop the bed here then do well elsewhere (I’m looking at you, Phil). I have money this year, but before I spend a lot of it on pitching I need to figure out who I should be spending it on. The current hypothesis: groundballers.
2. If I’m going to have this groundball-inducing staff, I need a shortstop who can field, and maybe even contribute on offense. They’re in short supply in the BBA, so I may have to overpay, but I don’t want to pay a big price either in free agent money or in trading prospects. Maybe one will fall from the sky…
3. Catcher Jason Bowen and his 11 million-dollar contract mercifully come off the books, but I do need to replace him. Howard Burton would be a really good backup, but he’s miscast as a starter.
There are other areas of concern, but I’m going to limit myself to three; I could give myself carpal tunnel syndrome listing all the areas that need improvement. I’m getting ready to start year three with the Chilis. Year three was when my Jerusalem team in the UMEBA took off, but I’m not expecting anything like that. Just need to keep on pushing that boulder up the long, steep hill, inch by inch…

Pro rata, Cano might have been the third or fourth best center fielder in the FL last year. I think that's his floor.

His ceiling is very attractive. Should be Borges level.aaronweiner wrote: ↑Sun Nov 07, 2021 4:57 pmPro rata, Cano might have been the third or fourth best center fielder in the FL last year. I think that's his floor.

Load up on up the middle fielding. Your outfielders should all have great range. GB pitchers for sure, preferably with enough stuff to get lots of strikeouts.
