El Paso 2045 Farm System Review, pt.5 (2046-6)
Anchorage Polar Bears 46-22 (Rookie ball)
Their 46 wins was a franchise high for Anchorage as they won their fourth Division Pennant and they were the only El Paso affiliate side to make the post season in 2045. It was their first post season since 2042 and their fourth overall attempt but once more it was a brief appearance. The Polar Bears were swept in four games by Port Arthur, outscored 20-8 in the four games. Anchorage were commanding throughout the regular season, 19-8 in June, 16-11 in July and finishing at a 11-3 canter in August. The team’s ERA of 3.79 was the second best in the HL thanks to the bullpen’s 2.92 ERA. Our defence was hot as well, our ZR of +24.3 was best in the HL and our .690 defensive efficiency was second best. Our 678 hits were third best in the HL as was our team batting average of .282
2045 ninth round pick, Ghassan Powell, led the team in H/9, K/9, WHIP and kept the opponents averages down to team leading .243/.313/.347 but still lost a team high six games. Zach Middleton, an off-season minor-league FA signing, led the team with seven wins and a 3.28 ERA. Another Minor league FA signing, Toshiyuki Honma , led the team with 14 saves and also managed a 6-1 record and a 1.13 ERA; he was promoted to Topeka for the last five games of 2045 and managed two saves there too.
Gene Reynolds, our 2045 second supplementary round pick, led the team with a .324 batting average, a .410 OBP and a .841 OBS. Meanwhile our second-round proper pick this year, Don Keagle, swung the bat well too, leading the team with 69 hits as well as being a defensively sound +6.2 ZR at CF. He briefly passed through Topeka on the way to finishing the season in Double-A Columbus. DH Ron McDonald , 2045 20th rounder, popped in with a team leading 221 AB’s, scoring 46 runs and a team leading 96 bases.
