Sim 9: Topeka pick up half a game on Grand Junction

May 25th vs Tombstone Geckos W 6-5
Three runs scored by Thunderbears in the bottom of the eighth turned a 3-5 deficit into a winning score. Nigel Roberts went 3-4 and collected three RBI including his second homer of 2045. George Goodman pitched the final two innings, allowing two hits and a run while striking out four as he improved his record to 4-5.

May 26th vs Tombstone Geckos W 7-2
Three runs in the first innings and four in the second finished off the Geckos who didn’t score until the eighth innings. Steve Kasper collected five RBI mainly thanks to a second innings Grand Slam, but he also picked up an RBI when he was drilled by a pitch in the first innings with the bases loaded already. Ken Gallagher struck out eight batters as he improved his record to 2-3.

May 27th vs Tombstone Geckos W 4-2
Thunderbears completed the sweep of Tombstone, largely thanks to three second innings runs. Hedde Aalbers, once a Wichita Aviator Rule 5 pick, went 2-4 driving a run in while Cesar Lucero went 2-3 scoring a run. Roberto Abreu earned his fifth win of the season allowing six hits and two runs in his 5.1 innings of work.

May 28th @ Danville Dodos W 5-2
Three runs by the Thunderbears in the second innings eventually allowed Topeka to win their fourth straight win. Tony Casillas went 4-4 but only scored once, Takeshi Suzuki walked twice, and his one hit was a 3-run homer. Andy Valentine walked four as well as giving up four hits but earned his second win nevertheless.

May 29th @ Danville Dodos L 5-6
Two runs by the Dodos in the bottom of the ninth innings snapped the Thunderbears winning streak, turning a possible 5-4 win into a 5-6 defeat. Joel Thomas & Tony Casillas both went 2-4, Casillas scoring twice and Thomas driving a pair of runs in. George Goodman blew his second save opportunity and dropped his record to 4-6.

May 30th @ Danville Dodos L 0-5
Danville won the final series game easily. Three early runs were supplemented by two in the eighth as Topeka could only manage four hits & two walks. Half of each were earned by lead-off Hedde Aalbers who failed to trouble the scorers

May 31st vs Billings Cowboys W 1-0
The final game of the month was a real pitcher’s duel, Topeka only managed two hits but ground out seven walks including a walk-off walk. With Danville only getting four hits as well we had to wait until the bottom of the ninth for Takeshi Suzuki to work a bases loaded walk to force in the game’s only run. Xi-wang Hong only faced two batters, walking one of them, but collected the win improving his record to 2-1.
