Sim 7: Sweep of Boulder leaves Topeka two games clear
May 12th vs Boulder Crush W 1-0
A fourth innings run by the Thunderbears was all it took to beat title rivals Boulder, Clark Pierce driving in John Snow. Topeka had six of the game’s total eight hits, Andy Valentine earning his first A ball victory, pitching seven innings allowing two hits, two walks while striking out five batters
May 13th vs Boulder Crush w 5-4
The scoring here was all compressed into the middle innings; Boulder opened with four runs in the top of the fifth while Topeka replied with one of their own in the bottom half. That was a vital run as Thunderbears completed the scoring with four in the bottom of the sixth. Joel Thomas going 2-4 driving in three of the runs. Reliever George Goodman just allowed a hit in 2.1 innings of work while striking out three to square his record at 3-3.
May 14th vs Boulder Crush W 8-5
Topeka closed out the welcome sweep of the Crush with another middle innings blast, scoring three times in the fifth and four times in the sixth. Jose Cruz was the star, his two homers netted him five RBI. Clark Pierce and Tony Castillas both scored twice as well. Earl Hutchinson gave up five walks and two runs in just 2.2 innings of relief but still came away with his first ever A ball win.
May 15th @ Pahrump Ranchers L 3-4
The Thunderbears took an early 3-0 lead in Pahrump but left it slip with a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth completing the Ranchers comeback. Cesar Lucero went 2-4 without troubling the scorers, George Goodman took the loss, dropping his record to 3-4.
May 16th @ Pahrump Ranchers L 4-5 (F/10)
It was another late run that caught the Thunderbears as Ranchers caught them again, this time in extra innings. Down 2-4 Topeka had managed to level it at 4-4 in the sixth, but there was no further scoring until Pahrump worked a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the tenth to force home the winning run. Takeshi Suzuki went 3-4 scoring once and driving in two runs. Angel Matrullo faced five batters, only got one of them out and walked three as he took the loss, dropping his record to 0-2.
May 17th @ Pahrump Ranchers L 0-9
Pahrump earned the sweep by blowing Topeka away in the final game. Four runs in the bottom of the first was enough to beat the Thunderbears who only managed three hits all game and failed to score. John Snow, Tony Castillas & Mario Garcia picked up the team’s three hits.
