Week 6: May 5th-May 11th

Well, it’s only taken six weeks of the 2044 season and 12 series, but Wichita have finally won a series. Not a winning sim yet, this 3-3 one was the first non-losing one and the wins against Charlotte gave Aviators their first winning series.

Game 33 @ Calgary Pioneers

5/5 @ Calgary L 1-10

The final game of the series in Calgary was even worse than the first two, three multi-run innings by Pioneers added up to a double figure tally. The lone reply by Aviators was Duane Whitley Jr’s 10th homer of 2044 in the sixth innings.

Games 34, 35 & 36 vs Charlotte Cougars

5/7 vs Charlotte W 4-0 (33,808}
5/8 vs Charlotte L 1-3 (34,638)
5/9 vs Charlotte W 7-2 (25,695)

Back home to face the Cougars, Wichita finally earned their first shutout of the season. In a low hit game (6-4 to Wichita) runs early on looked to have sealed the win and an eighth innings runs put the icing on Aviators shutout. Duane Whitley Jr went 2-4, driving in two of the four runs while Jose Montoya squared his record at 3-3 and equalled his 2043 win total. He pitched into the sixth innings allowing three hits and two walks, Tony Alomar pitched the last two innings to collect only his third save of the year. The role were reversed in game two, Cougars scored twice in first innings and that was enough to finish off the Aviators. Three hits was all they managed with Jim Gouzzie’s seventh inning homer their only offence. Alomar pitched the last four innings in an attempt to give Wichita a way back into the game but Aviators couldn’t find the offence. The final game saw Wichita finally win a 2044 series, this time it was Aviators that scored twice early on before Cougars levelled the score in the third. The vital strikes were in the fourth as Wichita took advantage of two walks, a wild pitch and a hit by pitch to score four times and seal the win and the series. Jorge Reyes had one hit from three AB’s but managed to come around and score as well as collecting three RBI during the game, Takanori Goto finally got his first win of 2044, pitching a complete game, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out five batters.

Games 37 & 38 @ Charm City Jimmies

5/10 @ Charm City W 6-3
5/11 @ Charm City L 2-3

Heading for Charm City, Wichita picked up their second straight win. By mid-sixth they had amassed a 5-0 lead and that proved to be enough. Jorge Reyes went 2-3, scoring once and driving two runs in. Damon Tipping broke his duck too, improving his record to 1-5, pitching seven innings allowing four hits and two runs. Roles reversed in game two, with Charm City 3-0 up after five innings Aviators tried to come back but could only close to within one before time ran out. Jorge Rincon improved his shabby record to .154 with a 2-4 performance and scored once. Ramon Guerrero pitched five innings and dropped his record to 1-4, allowing six hits, three of them solo homers, and three walks.
