Down on the Farm (2044-11)
Could all three top minors repeat play-off efforts? All three of the Wichita’s top affiliates made the post season in 2043, two made their league’s finals and Albuquerque won it all, would it be beyond the realms of possibilities that all three could repeat in 2044? There’s been big changes and turnover, so it’s probably unlikely but there’s the low-down on where the affiliates are as we await the start of the 2044 season
Albuquerque Coyotes
Ramon Guerrero & Guillaume Martin were the only members of the Championship winning roster to move up to Wichita this off season so in theory Coyotes have a great chance of repeating. Albuquerque will be boosted by some top prospects promoted from Double-A Columbus including starters Francisco Perez,
Josh Hayworth & Chris Sackett who managed a combined 28 wins between them in Double-A last season. Also arriving from Columbus are C Brian Best, 2B Daniel Mares, SS Raul Lopez, OF Elmer Lomondand DH Dalton Hensley all the way from single A Topeka. All of this has mean the shedding of quite a few players, the most well-known being RF Wally Poole, RP Miroslav Tomanek, RP Sancho Torres and C German Gomez who was demoted to Columbus after spending parts of three years trying to crack Albuquerque.
All of this has strengthened Coyotes fantastically and they could even be better than the 2043 side on a short-term basis though as a lot of this squad could well be in their finishing school for a 2045 BBA debut.
Chance of Post season: 95%
Columbus Brown Sox
Jose Lopez, Reynold Voermans & Sumitomo Takahashi have all made their way from Topeka to Columbus to fill the rotation vacancies but the bullpen is fairly unchanged with the addition of Heriberto Nepomuceno up from Springfield. Fernando Casimiro, Mike Sears, Walton Gomez and Dan Knight (up from Springfield) are the most exciting batters promoted up to Columbus. The retention of around ten players from the 2043 Columbus roster is making the squad look on the old side, there really are too many 25 & 26-yr-olds hanging around Columbus and there will have to be a major make-over in 2045 when a large number of Albuquerque players finally graduate, leaving holes for the players here to progress to Triple-A where they should be.
Chance of Post season: 70%
.
Topeka Thunderbears
Topeka have received three decent pitchers from Springfield to go with well-respected holdovers Hector Fuentes & Bartolo Deleon giving the Thunderbears the look of a sturdy rotation. 19-yr-old Jesus O’Day, one of the best closer/stopper prospects in Wichita’s low minors has made it this far and hopefully will repeat, and improve on, the 15 saves he had last year in Springfield with an ERA under 2.00. As for the batters a few are retained from the 2043 roster but a lot of them are promoted from Springfield. A few more are minor league free agent recruits including GM Laverick’s nephew Nigel Roberts fresh from the Cairo minor leagues in the UMEBA. Looking a poorer side (as I said about last year’s Thunderbears who reached the play-offs for the first time in Topeka’s history) than 2043, we hope they will develop in the higher standard.
Chance of Post season: 40%
