ALBUQUERQUE COYOTES 2042 Review

Coyotes tally of 63-81 was their lowest in the modern era, they had also only recorded 63 wins back in 2036, but in those days the AAA teams only played 135 games rather than the 144 they play these days. Coyotes actually won five out of their eight games that went to extra innings and tried to stick in close games, winning 13 out of the 28 one-run games. An 8-20 start in April certainly put the mockers on their season and although they went 16-12 & 13-12 the next couple of months they just couldn’t pick up from that horrendous start. As more and more pitchers made the trip to Wichita and minor league FAS’s replaced them the season fell away again in the last two months. Surprisingly enough their best RHML stat was their home runs allowed, 168, was the seventh lowest total in the RL and the bullpen ERA of 4.22 was also seventh in the RL. Apart from that there was a lot of stats rated13th, 14th, 15th and lower. They had though, tried to adhere to the team ethos of defence with their ZR (+11.9) & Deff eff of .699 both being rated 8th in the RL. Not exactly fantastic, but not as bad as it could be and both figures something to build on. The team’s total attendance more or less held up, it dropped just 735 from last year’s figure and was only 8.605 below the team high set in 2040.

The only single season batting record set in 2042 was by Wally Poole who unfortunately struck out 128 times, more than anyone has managed in the history of the Albuquerque team, he also though walked 70 times which was just two short of the record set by current Aviators backup catcher John Todd last year. Leader in all 2042 triple slash categories was Jose Carlos Flores who hit .269/.344/.453 with a team leading OPS of.787. He also led the team with 108 hits. 22-yr-old DH Guillaume Martin led the team with 26 homers and 79 RBI.

Nothing good came of the pitcher’s record either, Jesus Zapata managed to walk 100 batters in his 137 IP, breaking the previous single season record by nearly 30 while Reggie Gascoigne’s 58 appearances was just one shy of tying the single season record. Despite that Zapata led Albuquerque in wins with 13 (second highest tally throughout the whole franchise), innings pitched (137), K/9 (7.88), WHIP (1.70) and opponents hit lower against him than any other Coyotes in all stats.
